Who needs store bought grocery store Snickers when you can make your own version of everyone’s favorite candy bar at home!? This recipe of course, isn’t just like the real thing – but it comes pretty close and has that very familiar Snickers taste. We actually like this homemade Snickers candy bars version better than store bought, believe it or not!

We love this Snickers recipe for making seasonal gifts, it’s great for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and also makes a nice treat to go on a Christmas platter.
And let’s face it, who doesn’t love Snickers? This is also a really great treat to make for sporting events, hiking or camping because these Snickers cups offer a nice little burst of protein.
Snickers Snack Cup Ingredients
Milk Chocolate Chips
Caramel Bits *you can also use Kraft Caramels
Luke warm water
Roasted Salted Peanuts, chopped (1 cup peanuts if you want more peanuts!)
Muffin liners

How to make homemade Snickers Snack Cups
Place muffin liners into a muffin tin.
In a microwave safe bowl melt the chocolate chips on high in 30 second increments, stirring after each increment, until smooth.
Spoon about 2 teaspoons of melted chocolate as the bottom layer into the bottom of each muffin liner. Make sure the bottom chocolate layer totally covers the bottom of each muffin liner.
In a separate microwave safe bowl melt the caramel bits and water in 30 second increments, stirring after each increment, until smooth. Stir in the chopped peanuts.
For the next layer, spoon about a tablespoon of the caramel mixture into each cup, making sure the caramel layer spreads somewhat evenly. This is your second layer.
Spoon about a tablespoon of the caramel mixture into each cup, making sure the caramel layer spreads somewhat evenly. This is your second layer.
If needed, reheat the chocolate to melt and spoon enough of the chocolate coating in to cover the caramel and peanuts, about 2 teaspoons to a tablespoon. This top chocolate layer will be your third and top layer, so you’ll have two layers of chocolate – the bottom one and then the one on the top with the creamy caramel in the center. *You can use the back of a spoon to slowly smooth the excess chocolate around the top of the nougat layer.
Let cool and set. If they don’t firm up place in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.
*If you don’t have muffin tins, you can try making these delicious homemade Snickers bars in a small sheet pan, I would just recommend lining it with parchment paper first. The caramel pieces turned caramel sauce tends to get very sticky.
This copycat recipe is one of our favorites and perfect when you need a yummy little pick me up treat that also works great as a gift for just about any event.
Freezing Snickers Treats
These also freeze nicely and quite often I will stick them in the freezer in a ziplock bag before we go camping, and grab them and put them in the cooler right before we head out!
Now I just need to perfect my Reese’s peanut butter cups copycat recipe … when I do, I’ll be sharing that as well! I love a good homemade version of favorite candies and candy bars and these make your own homemade snickers bars and other candy bar copycat recipes aren’t as hard as you might think! We’ve had a blast trying to perfect some of our favorites!
Additional Tips for Making this Copycat Classic Snickers Bar Recipe:
You probably don’t want to store these at room temperature for long. I recommend keeping them in the muffin tins and in the fridge until you are ready to serve.
If you like the combination of salt and chocolate, you might try topping these with a sprinkling of flaky sea salt, it’s a delicious combination!
The peanuts are optional, of course but if you actually LOVE peanuts, you can double the amount and use 1 cup peanuts instead of the called for 1/2 cup of peanuts.
Once you do remove the muffin liners with the homemade Snickers treats, I recommend storing them in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
We like to freeze these homemade snickers and then put them on a cutting board to break up with a sharp knife and then my hubby loves to use them as a topping on vanilla ice cream!

Do you use mini cup cake holders or regular sized?
I would think adding a tiny bit of evaporated milk to the caramel bits would make it taste creamer and fresher. Not too much though. You don’t want it runny!
