Meet Toby Wilson
Toby is the Art Director for Planes Fire & Rescue and it was so fun to be able to sit down with him to delve into the creative surroundings and details that make up Piston Peak National Park.
First of all, Toby is clearly passionate about this film. He was all smiles as he shared with us childhood stories of visiting national parks and just what an impression that those visits made on him. This passion comes through in the film and the details that are mapped out (literally mapped out!) as the inhabitants of Piston Peak National Park were developed along with their surroundings.
If you didn’t notice the first time, pay close attention to little details like the pine cones on the trees… they are actually little spark plugs! Pay attention to the trees and you will notice that the bark resembles tire tracks. So many fun details make you really feel like you are experiencing what it would be like to be in an environment created by planes and other rescue vehicles. These are the kinds of details that truly make Disney movies magical, and they also make them worth watching again and again because each time you will notice new details that you didn’t see before.
Toby and his team spent countless hours mapping out Piston Peak National Forest so that it is full of landmarks and scenery, all of which is based on the research that they did in our real national parks.
