Alan Menken Performs LIVE at D23 Expo #D23Expo
Disclosure: This event and trip to LA was an all expense paid journey sponsored by Disney. All thoughts, experiences and opinions are 100% my own!
One of the true thrills for me (one of many) of attending D23 Expo in Anaheim a couple of weeks ago was a private LIVE concert that we attended in which THE Alan Menken performed live for us by playing on the piano and singing for us some of this most popular songs. As he did so, he walked us through his history with Disney and told some fabulous stories about his journey.
Alan Menken has a rich history with Disney, and a hugely impressive list of awards: Eight Oscars® (19 nominations), 11 Grammy® Awards, seven Golden Globes, a Tony Award. He’s the man behind the music in so many of our favorite Disney hits: Beauty and the Beast, Tangled, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and so many more. Not to mention that his work on brilliant Broadway shows like Little Shop of Horrors and Newsies. To say the least, this guy is beyond talented, and it was such a true joy to be a part of this performance.
My video clips are not the best, as the lighting and set up worked a bit against me, but this might give you an idea of just how special this event was. I will cherish the memory of this concert always.

And my very, very VERY favorite. This one.
Disney’s Tale As Old As Time Performed LIVE by Alan Menken at D23 Expo
I hope you enjoyed these clips as much as I enjoyed sharing them! Seeing him perform them and hearing him talk about how each of these songs came to be was such a special experience. One of my favorite things about this performance was seeing how the songs evolved and seeing video that he shared showing teams working on these songs, and how words changed as he and other writers put it all together. Crazy to think that the songs we know and love could have turned out differently, they all seem so perfect.
Huge thanks to Alan Menken for sharing this wonderful talent with all of us.
