Easy Monkey Bread Recipe

Ingredients for making this monkey bread recipe

  • Brown sugar
  • Butter
  • Half and half
  • Cinnamon

See the recipe card below for details instructions.

You’ll also need a jumbo or oversized muffin pan.
These were created in the Wilton 6 Cup Jumbo Muffin Pan. You can of course use regular-size muffin cups, but you’ll want to adjust the amount of dough pieces that you put in each muffin tin cup.
*If you have any muffin cast-iron pans, even better!

How to make easy monkey bread

1. Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.

2. In a medium sized bowl, combine sugar by adding 1/2 cup brown sugar and the cinnamon.

3. Bring your frozen roll dough to room temp or microwave for a minute or two until it’s no longer frozen.

4. Spray each individual muffin tin with cooking spray.

5. To separate dough, cut the rolls into 4 small equal pieces each. Roll pieces into tight balls and toss each piece in the cinnamon sugar mixture and then place in muffin tin. Put 8 -12 pieces of biscuit dough into each cupcake tin. *as you can see from the photos, we like to overstuff them, but you definitely don’t need to. Less dough balls will just make your individual serving sizes smaller.

6. Make the caramel sauce by combining the remaining brown sugar, the half and half, and the stick of butter over a medium heat on the stovetop. Bring to a low boil and boil for about 2 minutes before removing from heat.

7. Pour the caramel sauce over each of the muffin tins, dividing evenly among all 10 serving sizes.

8. Bake the Monkey Bread at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Cooking time can vary, sometimes I’m baking these between 15-20 minutes, so just make sure to keep an eye on them.

You might consider placing the muffin tins on a larger cookie sheet when you put them in the oven, just to make things easier and prevent any dripping of the brown sugar mixture in your oven as the biscuit pieces will rise which could cause overflow.

9. Allow your pull-apart monkey breads to cool 3-4 minutes.

  1. Hi Jerry! We use frozen Rhodes rolls – the come in balls in the freezer section, but any kind should work. I just tear them off into even smaller rolls. You will find them in the freezer isle at walmart, usually by the frozen garlic breads and such.
