Dyeing Easter Eggs with Vinegar (the simple way!)

Dyeing Easter eggs with vinegar is the way we dyed them when I was a kid! 

You can skip the expensive egg dyeing kits this year and learn how to start dyeing Easter Eggs with a few items you have at home.

The best part about this recipe for dyeing Easter eggs is that it’s quick, easy and you probably have everything that you need on hand.

Keep things simple with these easy recipe for Dyeing Easter Eggs

I have found that the more simple that we keep the actually act of egg dyeing, the more fun we actually have.

Dyeing Easter Eggs with Vinegar

Dyeing Eggs Supplies

What you need to dye Easter Eggs

  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 3-5 drops food coloring (Watkins Food Coloring is one of my favorite brands)
  • Hard boiled eggs
  • Mason jars or coffee mugs

How to Dye Easter Eggs with Vinegar

1. Boil a few cups of water in a large pot on the stove.
2. Place a tablespoon of vinegar into each jar.

3. Squirt 3-5 drops of food coloring into each jar, making each one a different color.
4. Once your water is boiling, add a 1/2 cup to each jar and stir well.

Dyed Easter Eggs
5. Carefully drop a hard boiled egg into each jar and let set for 5-10 minutes until you’ve reached your desired color.
6. Carefully remove each egg and pad dry with paper towel.

Now once you have your egg dyeing plan, you can start to add in the fun creative variations so that you can great creative with your design.

White crayons work great for coloring on eggs before dropping them into the dye, as the dye will not stick in those areas so you can create wonderful designs this way.

My kids always enjoy writing their name on at least one egg.

We also love to add in sparkles, glitter and anything else that makes the decorating process fun. Most importantly though, it’s about time with the ones that you love!
