How to Dye Easter Eggs with Food Coloring and Vinegar
Have you ever over complicated something, like Dying Easter eggs? I have and the lesson in that is usually that you don’t need to fix what isn’t broken. (pun intended, lol!)
As is the case with dying Easter Eggs. Just like grandma used to do, dying Easter eggs with food coloring and vinegar is still one of the best, easiest, most affordable and it makes the prettiest dyed eggs – in my opinion.

How to Boil Eggs for Easter Egg Coloring
Place eggs in the bottom of a pot, fill with cold water – 1 inch above the eggs.
Bring the water to a rapid boil on high heat.
Once it begins to boil, cover the eggs and remove from heat.
Do NOT remove lid. Let them sit for 12 minutes (less or more depending on how you like your eggs, but I usually find 12 minutes is about perfect)
Fill a large bowl with cold water and ice.
When eggs have cooked long enough, use your tongs to transfer them gently into the ice water. Let them sit for about 15 minutes.
How to Dye Easter Eggs with Food Coloring
Protect your work area with newspaper / paper towels.
Set out your bowls/cups for the colored water. In each cup, pour enough hot water so that it will to cover the egg completely without rising over the top once the egg is added.
Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar to each bowl and 1 to 2 drops of food coloring. (or more if you would like them darker)
If you would like them darker, add around 3 to 5 drops. Use a spoon to stir each color.
*I recommend adding colors slowly, a little bit goes a long ways and it’s easy to get the colors too dark.
Make sure your eggs are totally cooled.
Use your tongs to place the eggs inside cups and leave them for about 5 minutes. If you would like a darker hue leave the egg for a few more minutes.
Grab the tongs and carefully pull out the egg.
*the trick to getting lovely colors is working with your dye and the amount of drop vs. the time you let the eggs soak. Getting the perfect color is part of the fun.
Place the eggs on the paper towel to dry.
Once you have finished with all the eggs, let them dry, and you are ready to use!
