One of my very favorite things about sharing entertainment news with you is that sometimes I get to attend the press conferences, junkets and red carpet events where the movie studios and production companies share and celebrate their new releases! These often include exclusive celebrity interviews which gives me the unique opportunity to get exciting behind the scenes information!
Usually these events take place in LA, but I’ve traveled all over the country the past few years to interview the film makers, animators and actors and actresses that bring these stories to the big screen.
I get asked quite often what my favorite celebrity interview has been and that’s not an easy one to answer. My top five include my interview with Chris Hemsworth for 12 Strong, my interview with Steven Spielberg for The BFG, my interview with Tom Hanks for Toy Story 4, interview with Angelina Jolie for Maleficent (one of my all time favorite movies!), and how can I forget m interview with Oprah Winfrey for Wrinkle in Time!! (she also happened to give one of my favorite interview answers of all times – of course she did, she’s Oprah!)
*I should mention that Oprah was with Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling at the time, and it was a fantastic conversation, as you can imagine!
Other stand out celebrity interviews include:
My interview with Jennifer Garner and Steve Carell for Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
My interview with the REAL Moana – Auli’i Cravalho and her mother Puanani Cravalho. This all took place before she was known as Moana and it was a wonderful peek at their life before she became famous and how it changed their lives. Many people still ask me about this interview, who Auli’i’s mom is and how she got this role.
Of course, I can’t forget my interview with Dwayne Johnson about his role as Maui in Moana OR my interview with Lin-Manuel Miranda.
One thing I love about celebrity interviews is that it’s a very raw and real peek at the people behind the characters. There have been a few times when a celebrity was closed off, but for the most part – these have been very upbeat and exciting conversations with lots of laughs and some deep insight into their perspective on not only the movie they were staring in, but also some wonderful life perspective as well!
My interviews with the cast and creators of Dr. Strange were pretty mind blowing and included Tilda Swinton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams, and also an interview with Director Scott Derrickson.
I don’t even know how to rank all of these, they were all so amazing. Did I mention that I interviewed George Clooney and the cast of Tomorrowland?
I can’t even rank these interviews, there have been so many good ones. Including my interview with J.J. Abrams along with pretty much the entire cast of Star Wars: The Force Awakens: Harrison Ford, AKA Han Solo, Daisy Ridley who plays Rey and John Boyega who plays Stormtrooper Finn.
Also included in that press day was my interview with Producer & President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy and my interview with Oscar Isaac (Poe) & Lupita Nyong’o (Maz).
Another celebrity interview that I should probably mention is my interview with Michael Douglas and the cast of Ant-Man including stars Paul Rudd & Evangeline Lilly along with my interview with the “ANTourage” threesome of Michael Pena, T.I. and David Dastmalchian.
Interviewing John Cena for Playing with Fire. That was an exciting trip to Canada!
Celebrity interviews don’t always go as planned.
There was also that time that I got flowers from Melissa McCarthy because she had the flu and had to miss our interview. That turned out to be pretty cool too.
SO many wonderful Hollywood stars: Kristen Bell for Frozen, Kenny Ortega (DESCENDANTS), so many Disney Channel Stars including Dove Cameron from Liv & Maddie, the Bunk’d cast, the late (and wonderful) Cameron Boyce, Bryce Dallas for Pete’s Dragon, and Misty Copeland for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
Oh! And that time that I interviewed AND received a pair of the most magnificent Alice in Wonderland shoes from Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass Producer Suzanne Todd. (I adore her AND I adore my shoes!!) Read that story here.
There are so many more wonderful moments that have taken place over the past decade, and I’m so thankful for the opportunities I’ve had to share these fun interviews and moments with you.
