A twist on the Classic Cranberry Sauce Recipe
Ingredients for Homemade Maple Vanilla Cranberry Sauce
1 12-ounce bag fresh cranberries
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup water
1 teaspoons vanilla
How to make Maple Vanilla Cranberry Sauce
Wash the cranberries and discard any that are discolored.
Add the maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon and water to a saucepan and bring to a boil.
Turn the heat down to medium-low, cover and simmer for five minutes, stirring frequently. You’ll start to hear the cranberries pop open, and that’s exactly what you want!
Uncover and use masher to gently mash the cranberries, making sure to get any that haven’t already popped open.
Turn the heat down to low and cook for another five minutes. If the mixture is too thick, add some more water.
Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla.
Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking. Note: If using this as a dessert topping, you might not want it a sweet.
Serve at room temperature as a sauce for ice cream, cheesecake or yogurt. Or chill it to be served as a side dish. *Keep in mind, this will thicken as it sits, so you may need to add a little more water to get the consistency you want.
