Easy Homemade Apple Pie Recipe
Easy Homemade Apple Pie Recipe
There is nothing better than a “from scratch” recipe, and they don’t always have to be complicated.
This Easy Homemade Apple Pie recipe is quite easy to make and it can be done with ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen.
Best of all, the result is a delicious dessert that when served warm (with ice cream!) is just like the wonderful pies that grandma used to make! Because if you can bake like grandma, you are winning, at least that is the case when it comes to my grandma(s)!
Ingredients for both the filling and the crust of this easy apple pie recipe:
Filling for the easy homemade apple pie recipe:
3 red apples (jazz or honey crisp are our favorites)
3 green apples (I would suggest avoiding sour apples)
¼ C brown sugar
½ C white sugar
1 ½ Tsp cinnamon
4 T flour
Pinch of nutmeg
Crust for homemade apple pie:
3 C flour
1 ½ C cold salted butter
4 T sugar
½ tsp cinnamon
6 T Ice Cold water
1 egg
How to make EASY Homemade Apple Pie
Preheat oven to 375
Using an apple peeler, peal the apples and cut slices in half.
(*I use this Kitchen Basics Apple Peeler, which gets great reviews on Amazon)
Toss the Apples in a bowl with sugars, cinnamon, flour, and nutmeg.
Once apples are coated with the sugar mixture set them aside.
Making the Crust
Begin on crust by mixing flour and 2T of sugar.
Cut butter into cubes and use a pastry blender to mix the butter into the flour mixture.
The mixture is ready for the water once butter is pea size and if you take a handful of the mixture and squeeze and it holds together.
Use a Fork when mixing the added water (add 1 T at a time).
Once dough is ready split in half and roll each out on a floured surface.
Measure the size of the pie plate on the dough to know how big to roll it out. (the top will need to be slightly larger, as you know)
Add the Apples to the Pie Crust
Add in the sugared apple pieces layering them evenly on top of each other. It’s going to be a little taller than the pie plate.
Pour any remaining liquid over the apples.
Add the top crust to the pie and cut out a circle in the middle of the crust.
Crack one egg and whip it. Brush some on top of the crust and then sprinkle the remaining sugar on the crust.
Bake The Pie
Cover edges of pie and bake for 20 minutes.
After that, remove foil and continue to bake for 35 more minutes.
Let sit for 10 minutes then serve warm.
Of course, topped with yummy vanilla ice cream is the very best way to serve this or any pie, right?

The pie sounds delicious. I have never heard of an apple peeler like that before. It looks much easier to use that than my hand peeler.
Brenda, these peelers are wonderful, I love mine! It also works really good on potatoes – and my kids love to help!
Lovely pie and so easy for a first time attempt at pastry! Following other reviewer comments, I drained apples well and covered in foil and baked for 30mins then removed foil and left to brown on top for a further 20mins.
I think the recipe is wrong. It says 275 but the pie is no where near cooked. Do you mean 375?
Oh my goodness Deanne! Thank you for catching that, I have updated my post! I am so sorry… very thankful that you caught my goof!
No problem! The rest of the recipe is great- crust turned out delicious!
Yay, that is great to hear! I am so SO glad you caught that, it would be a shame to have people ruining awesome pies!!
Lovely pie and so pretty too. I don’t have a peeler like that. i suppose I need one to make things easier. I hope you share at Dishing It & Digging It. the party is live now. Have a great week.
Hello! We just got home from the apple orchard and plan on making this baby for the fam tonight! Just noticing I only have oat flour and coconut flour… any suggestions on how to convert the amount of flour needed? Thanks I’m excited!
Can I use a store bought crust for this recipe?
