Christmas Chocolate Covered Strawberries
How fun are these Chocolate Covered Strawberry Christmas Trees? You’ll also love that this cute Christmas dessert idea is super easy!
We usually make chocolate strawberries for Valentine’s Day but with this chocolate strawberries recipe we love making them during the Christmas holiday season! The main thing is finding fresh strawberries – and quality fresh fruit can be tough to find here in Idaho in December. I have found though – that winter strawberries (that I’m sure are imported from another state) tend to be the less juicy strawberries and that’s perfect for these chocolate covered berries. You want to select large strawberries and not too ripe strawberries for the best results.
Kids will enjoy helping you to make these because it’s so fun decorating that little frosting tree, and you’ll love that this is an affordable and easy Christmas cookie treat idea that involves no baking! You are literally just melting your favorite type of chocolate and then you’ll dip strawberries one by one in the melted chocolate – which makes it the perfect Christmas activity and a wonderful way to involve littles in the process of helping you make these for your holiday party or celebrations.
Total Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients for making Christmas Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Strawberries (cold to room temperature strawberries work best)
Oreos (any kind of Oreo cookie will do!)
Sprinkles (Colored Balls, White Sugar Sprinkles, Star Candy Sprinkles, Color Sprinkles)
How to Make these Chocolate Covered Strawberries Look Like Christmas Trees
- Wash the strawberries and cut the tops off of each strawberry. Dry strawberries with a paper towel.
- Twist Oreos in half, keeping the crème filled side only. Pour white sugar sprinkles into a small bowl. Crème side down, dip the Oreo into the sugar sprinkles and set aside.
- Melt the green chocolate candy melts in a microwave safe bowl according to package directions.
- Using a toothpick or fork, pierce each strawberry (holding strawberries upside down) and completely coat it with the green candy melts. Place the strawberry (cut side down) onto the sprinkle-covered Oreo. Using either a toothpick or fork, dab at the melted candy to create the limbs and green leaves / pine needles on the Christmas tree. Quickly add ball sprinkles for ornaments and star sprinkles on top before the chocolate sets.
- Optional: Add additional sugar sprinkles on the completed Christmas trees to create a snowy effect.
- After the chocolate cools, place strawberries in the fridge to completely set up. You’ll want to make these Christmas Chocolate Covered Strawberries right before you serve them, ideally the same day OR the day before (if you make them the day before, store them in an airtight container)

Pro Tips for making these Chocolate Covered Strawberries
Here are a few additional tips for making these chocolate covered strawberry trees:
Lay wax paper or parchment paper (or paper towels or aluminum foil) down to keep your work space cleanup easy. I like to place mine on a baking sheet or sheet pan.
When you are melting the chocolate, place the bowl of chocolate in the microwave in 10-30 second intervals and stir chocolate each time to keep an eye on how quickly it is melting.
If you don’t have green chocolate, you can also use white chocolate chips or white chocolate and add green food coloring. We’ve also made these with semisweet chocolate and then used either powdered sugar to make them snow covered or green sugar sprinkles to color them green. You could also make a mix of green and white chocolate Christmas trees by using melted white chocolate for some of them. Get creative, that’s part of the fun!!
Definitely make sure to store your chocolate covered strawberry Christmas trees in a cool place, I find that they do best in the fridge until we are ready to serve them or put them in gift baskets, on cookie platters, etc. (these make a darling addition to a fruit basket or Christmas cookie platter!)
