EASY Fireworks Cupcake Recipe
Oh how I love holiday desserts!! And I especially love this one because this easy fireworks cupcake recipe is not only SO simple, but kids LOVE the look of these patriotic decorated treats!
Best of all, they can even help you with them, and they’ll have a blast!
*Warning, there will be LOTS of finger licking going on… but that’s the best part, right? I also love that they create a really fun and festive addition to your 4th of July celebration and they’ll look fantastic on your holiday table!
These are also great for taking to parties and picnics because this is a recipe that is easy to do in large numbers without breaking the bank. A huge bag of pretzel sticks will go a really long ways here!
Ingredients for Fireworks Cupcakes
12 cupcakes
2 to 3 cups vanilla frosting
1 (16 ounce) bag pretzel sticks (10 to 12 for each cupcake)
Candy melt wafers in royal blue, red, and white
Sprinkling sugar in blue, red, and clear
You will also need:
Large open star tip (Wilton 1M Open Star Piping Tip)
Piping bag
One of my favorite things about this recipe is that you can make your own cupcakes or if you are in a hurry, you can buy pre-made frosted cupcakes to decorate! It doesn’t get much easier than that!
How to make Firework Cupcakes:
Start by making your firework pretzel sticks. Divide pretzel sticks to dip in three colors.
Place candy melts in a microwave safe bowl. Melt on high heat, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted. Make sure to not overheat them. If you are worried about the chocolate being too thick, you can add vegetable shortening or coconut oil in 1 teaspoon increments, up to 1 tablespoon, and stir well. Do not add water.
Place pretzel sticks on a fork or candy dipping scoop. (I’m a huge fan of the dipping scoop!)
Next, pour candy melts over the pretzel sticks, allowing extra candy to drip back into the bowl. Move the pretzel sticks to waxed paper and then use toothpicks to separate the pretzels. Immediately sprinkle with colored sugar. Let them dry completely.
Pipe frosting over cupcake in a circular direction working from the outer edge of the cupcake towards the center. (again, you can purchase pre-made and frosted cupcakes if you are in a rush)
Press 10 to 12 candy-coated pretzel sticks into each cupcake in alternating colors to make your “fireworks cupcakes”. You might even alternate the amount of sticks that you put in the cupcakes, putting a LOT in some cupcakes and just a few in others. This will not only create a variety of “fireworks” on your finished dessert tray, but it will also offer your guests their choice of just how many sugar sticks they get on their cupcake.
Top each cupcake with star sprinkles and serve together for a cupcake fireworks display!
Aren’t those so fun? I love that they are easy and this is a recipe that kids can help you with. I’ve posted quite a few 4th of July recipes in the past and I love to include my kids in the celebration of these holidays.
