I have mentioned just a few times how much I love Disney Channel’s latest movie DESCENDANTS. It is so awesome, and we have already watched it at least 10 times (no joke) … it is such a fun film, full of music and dance. This is definitely one to add to the collection!
Order the DVD!
You can also order the movie DESCENDANTS on Amazon now! This dvd also contains some awesome bonus material including BLOOPERS (I love bloopers!) and a peek at what went into the making of this film including the rigorous dance rehearsals conducted by director Kenny Ortega.
Make sure to read my interview with directory Kenny Ortega for more insight into what went into making this film!
Basically, all of the Villains and their children have been banished to the Isle of the Lost. The young and newly crowned king makes the decision to bring the children of four of the villains from the Isle of the Lost and allow them to live among the good people of Auradon. As you can imagine it’s sort of chaos meets pleasantville as these kids bring a whole new level of excitement to the otherwise prim and proper community. Add in some awesome dance numbers, and a touch of a love story (but just a touch, very innocent and sweet – no kissing!) and some hilarious moments, this film is perfect for the entire family.
Rotten to the Core
Rotten to the core…. the cast in this movie is fantastic and if you don’t already know all of their names, you soon will! My daughter is already a huge Dove Cameron fan, so we were very excited to see her in this role! Dove plays the main character Mal, who is the daughter of Maleficent (played by Kristin Chenoweth – also FANTASTIC in this movie!) and along with her sidekicks: Carlos son of Cruella Deville (played by Cameron Boyce from Jessie – adorable and hilarious!) and Jay son of Jafar (played by BooBoo Stewart, this kid is AWESOME!) and Evie daughter of Evil Queen (played by the darling Sophia Carson).
I also have to mention Mitchell Hope. This kid plays Prince Ben (soon to be King and son of Belle and the Beast) and he does such a wonderful job. First of all, he just looks like a prince, and he is going to have young girls everywhere fawning over him.
He also does an amazing job in this role, including my very favorite scene, (my kids actually agreed with me, this is their favorite scene too!) in which he performs Did I Mention (you’ll know it when you see it … it’s R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S (R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S) and it’s fantastic! Also fantastic is the Be Our Guest remix. Director Kenny Ortega did such an outstanding job with these dance numbers, I can’t get over how fun this movie is! (have I mentioned that?)
Second chances, loyalty, good and evil…
This movie also has some great lessons: second chances, loyalty, and the always present battle between good and evil and the wonderful Disney things that happen when these two forces come together.
Plan a movie night with the family, you won’t be disappointed!!
Here’s the new trailer that Disney just released that gives you the entire first six minutes of this movie:
If you love the movie, then you’ll also love the book! The Isle Of The Lost by Melissa de La Cruz is a prequel to the upcoming Disney Channel movie DESCENDANTS. It is a great read to give you the facts and introduce you to these characters! And even if you have already seen the movie, it’s a GREAT read! I read it with my kids AFTER I saw the movie and we loved it!
About Isle of the Lost: Evil tree. Bad Apple?
Twenty years ago, all the evil villains were banished from the kingdom of Auradon to the Isle of the Lost–a dark and dreary place protected by a force field that makes it impossible for them to leave. Stripped of their magical powers, the villains now live in total isolation, forgotten by the world.
We just finished reading this and it has us even MORE excited for this movie! You can order this book now on Amazon for $10.70 and it gets GREAT reviews.
