Mexican Fruit Cup

Such a great in the summer months, these Mexican fruit cups are such a yummy way to get a fresh treat on a hot day. Best of all, you just need fresh fruit and some clear plastic cups or you can also serve these more like a fruit salad in individual bowls.

Ingredients for Mexican Fruit Cups

  • 1 small watermelon, peeled, seed removed

  • 1 jicama, peeled and seeded

  • 2 mangos, peeled and seeded

  • 1 fresh pineapple, peeled and cored

  • 2 limes (or fresh lime juice) *we prefer yellow limes if you can find them!

  • 2 tsp Tajin chili lime seasoning

You can of course use your favorite type of fruit, but we’ve found this combination of of summer fruits to be perfect. The variety of fruits is what will give this fruit cup a burst of flavor and then of course the squeeze of lime and added chile lime Tajin seasoning completes this Mexican fruit cup recipe perfectly.

Why yellow limes? Also known as sweet limes, yellow limes are often juicier and seem to be less acidic than the greener ones, so I always select those if I can.

How to Make Mexican Fruit Cups with Tajin Seasoning

  1. Cut the fruits into even sized long spears or chunks. Rim a glass with a lime wedge and dip the edge of the glass into the Tajin.

  2. Divide the fruit among cups and squeeze ½ the lime on top. Sprinkle the Tajin seasoning blend generously. For an extra kick, you can also sprinkle the Tajin chile lime seasoning in the bottom of the bowl or cup.

  3. Serve with a fork

Tips for making this Mexican fruit salad recipe:

  • The sweetness of the fruit is important so try to select in-season fruit that is ripe
  • The savory citrus taste mixed with the spicy twist of the chile powder seasoning and lime flavor is what puts this treat over the top.
  • I have heard of people using dehydrated lime juice with these but I can’t image that it’s as good as the real thing?
  • Other favorite fresh seasonal fruits that would go good in these fruit cups include honeydew melon or cantaloupe. Again, the key is to use ripe fruit.
  • You can also add a pinch of salt or sea salt if you like that addition of salty flavor. It definitely adds one more element of flavor sensation to the fresh tropical fruits.
