Modern Comfort Food: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook

Released in October, this cookbook is packed with do-able recipes that not only have that down-home cooking feel to them, but Ina’s recipes have dependable, easy-to-follow instructions, with lots of side notes for cooking which makes them really easy to follow, and super hard to mess up.
The way that this cookbook is formatted, it feels like Ina is right there beside you, helping you to create these wonderful recipes. This is my kind of cookbook and not only is it great to own, it would make a fantastic gift.

I’m the first to admit that I can use all the help in the kitchen that I can get, but I also really tend to love those recipes that feel like they’ve been passed down for generations.
Ina’s new cookbook has 85 new recipes that include everything from cocktails to dessert, from special weekend breakfasts to quick weeknight dinners and many of these dishes and desserts are inspired by childhood favorites. My kind of recipes.
What I love most about her recipes is that while many seem traditional, she kicks things up a notch.
We decided to try her recipe for homemade bourbon cream cheese frosting. I’m not much of a drinker, but I do love a nice glass of whiskey and I happened to have a new bottle of Maker’s Mark on hand, so the timing was perfect.
I had been promising my husband gingerbread cookies (he loves the seasonal Betty Crocker cookie mix gingerbread) and this yummy frosting turned out to be the perfect topping for these cookies, so yummy!
Even better, it only calls for 5 ingredients and we had enough left over to frost some pumpkin muffins, which were also amazing with this frosting!
How to Make Ina Garten’s Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting
6 ounces of cream cheese (room temperature)
6 tablespoons (3/4 stick) unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 tablespoon good bourbon (I used Maker’s Mark!)
½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
½ pound confectioners’ sugar, sifted
Directions for making this Bourbon Cream Cheese Frosting recipe
Place the cream cheese, butter, bourbon, and vanilla in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat on medium speed until smooth. With the mixer on low, slowly add the sugar and mix well. Scrape down the sides and stir well with a rubber spatula.

It’s amazing how such a simple recipe can create such a wonderful treat. I love how they turned out and they were so delicious.
These are the types of recipes you can expect from the Modern Comfort Food cookbook. Cozy recipes that you will be proud of and will find yourself making over and over again.
In fact, my hubby loved these so much that I’ve already promised him that I’ll be making these again in December!
