Anyone else have kids that are Animal Crossing obsessed?
If you aren’t familiar with Animal Crossing, it is a social simulation video game series developed and published by Nintendo.
Any parents out there who are Animal Crossing obsessed and building your own New Horizons Island with precision and dedication? We’ve got some seriously devoted Animal Crossing Island creators in this house, and we’ve been loving the Animal Crossing community during lockdown – what a great example and a safe and good way for Animal Crossing players to come together, I’ve been blown away by the entire concept.
It’s true! Animal Crossing has been such a wonderful blessing this year – such a fun and creative game and my mama heart loves how this game cultivates creativity and fun (and even learning) in a safe space! Animal Crossing New Horizons was discovered by my daughter just as we were heading into lockdown, so we had a lot of time for creating island layouts, design ideas and checking out all the new features. I’m not a huge fan of video games so this kind of caught me off guard because while it is a video game, it gets it’s 5-star rating with parents because it duplicates real life situations (building, sharing, creating, bartering, etc) without compromising safety or putting kinds in sketchy situations.
Animal Crossing New Horizons it the best video game, ever!
It’s not too often you’ll find me saying that about a video game, but Animal Crossing has actually been the source of hours and hours of fun, conversation and imaginative play in our house this past year. I know that lots of players feel the same way. You basically create an entire island (your island) and work to get it to it’s very best designs. Decorating houses, stores, even a zen garden! A general store, picnic area …all of the goodies as you work to create a 5-star island rating (my daughter has a 5 star island and she’s so proud of it!)
Unique islands are the best, and we’ve spend hours getting inspiration from beautiful islands created by other gamers. And my daughter loves the Animal Crossing collectibles like her Tom Nook t-shirt and even a custom print she has on her wall featuring her own island. I’m telling you – it’s an amazing world of wonder and creativity! She isn’t on social media yet, so this was a nice first venture into technology. She’s always coming with new ideas and ways to use the island designer app and tips from other players and friends to find rare items to collect and trade.
It’s a charming little world of fun friends and characters where players build a personal island paradise through a process that is truly impressive. Bartering, building and connecting with imaginary neighbors, it’s a brilliant world that again – is a safe environment for kids and adults to play, connect and escape to a happy place! It’s been the best way to allow my daughter to create and connect with her friends without worrying about what trouble she might get into.
What I love most about this game is that it’s truly for everyone! I know adults that have used it for relaxation and I personally find it very relaxing and calm. It’s a great way for kids to learn about community, building, bartering and more and of course, along with all great things come: MERCHANDISE!
And there is no shortage of Animal Crossing merch (including some custom designs and cool items for special gift giving!) so many fun merchandise items for the Animal Crossing fan on your list.
