The Albertsons Safeway family of stores is currently running their national “Hunger Is” campaign which began on September 1st and will run through September 30th, 2015 to help aid in the relief of childhood hunger in America. This program is designed to raise awareness, volunteer hours, and funds that will improve health outcomes for hungry children and their families.
It is SO easy to turn a blind eye to hunger right here in our own communities because it can actually be hard to see. I remember my own eyes being opened a couple of years ago when I was volunteering at my children’s school one morning and one of the little girls fell asleep in my reading group. Clearly low on energy, I brought it to the teachers attention and was so sad to discover that she wasn’t just tired, but hungry as well. It broke my mama heart because no child should ever go hungry.
I love that this campaign is calling attention to this cause, and taking action to help.
There are two ways that shoppers can help to support this campaign:
DONATE AT THE REGISTER: In some regions, stores will be hosting a “Donation Campaign” at the register where shoppers will be asked by cashiers while checking out if they would like to donate to the Hunger Is fundraiser. I visited my Albertson’s yesterday and this was not an option in my store.
BRAND PARTNERSHIPS: Shoppers can purchase specific items which will in turn result in earning meals for the Hunger Is campaign. Participating Brands/Products include:
Con Agra – Marie Calender’s, Healthy Choice, Bertolli’s and PF Changs brands
As you can see in the images below, participating products will have the Hunger is All of Us logo on the hang tag, so keep an eye out for these products and brands as you shop:
