Any other Melissa Gilbert fans out there? Little House and the Prairie is one of my all time favorites and just like that always was, When We Last Spoke is a heartwarming tale of family, the importance of family and gift of family. ALL the good stuff!
I’m always up for anything staring Melissa Gilbert, and this one based on the novel by author Marci Henna.
A wonderful movie for this time, when I think we could all use a little joy, this movie delivers. Very well written and delivered with so much heart, this movie will tug at your heart strings and take you on a journey that will bring so much happiness to your soul. Best of all, it’s perfect for the whole family.
Director Joanne Hock does a beautiful job bringing this story by screenplay writers Rick Eldridge, Jimmy Hager to life. All based on Marci Henna’s novel, this is a family movie that really brings to light the important aspects of life. A fantastic cast (including a surprise appearance by oscar-winner cloris leachman) make this movie a warm-hearted story that I think will resonate with so many people.
About When We Last Spoke
In 1967, sisters Juliet (Darby Camp) and Evangeline (Chandler Head) are abandoned by their mother at their unsuspecting grandparents’ farm in the small southern town of Fireside. Stunned by their sudden arrival, tender-hearted Walt (Corbin Bernsen) and champion fiddler Ruby (Melissa Gilbert) graciously stand in for the missing parents and create one blue-ribbon recipe for a loving family.
Fireside, home of radio Station KOFF, kept secrets, broken promises and to-die-for sundaes serves as the backdrop for this heartwarming story full of surprises. Top it all off with the unexpected appearance of Walt’s ailing mother—eccentric, Emily Dickinson-quoting Itasca (Cloris Leachman), and laughter and tears abound.
Richly packed with plenty of quirky characters and hilarious escapades, When We Last Spoke is a timeless movie for all ages that digs in deep to things that matter most—family, friends, love, and forgiveness.
The Cast of When We Last Spoke
One thing that really stood out to me with this film is the fact that it was so well cast. As I mentioned earlier, Melissa Gilbert stands out but along with her, this movie also stars some real gems including Corbin Bernsen, Chandler Head, Darby Camp, and Academy Award winner Cloris Leachman this movie brings together the most wonderful personalities and characters.
You are going to fall head over heels for the characters in this film, truly heartwarming with the ultimate message that family (and love) is everything.
