Senior Safety with Master Lock Products

With nearly 50 million citizens age 65 and older living in the U.S. and Canada, seniors represent one of the fastest growing population segments, but also a demographic commonly targeted for crime. As part of Master Lock’s ongoing commitment to keep consumers safe through every life stage, they have shared with me some of their advice and product recommendations for keeping the seniors in their lives secure – be it themselves or an aging parent.
Here are four of the products that the folks at Master Lock recommend for senior safety assistance:
- 5422D Master Lock Portable Key Safe: a secure place to store your keys so you’ll never get locked out, and can also grant access to your home to trusted neighbors, dog walkers, etc.
- 5900D Master Lock SafeSpace: a small, portable safe to store valuables such as jewelry, cell phones or credit cards while you’re out and about – for example, working at the library or playing sports outside
- Master Lock 265DCCSEN Door Security Bar: resists forced entry through hinged doors and sliding patio doors
- Sentry Safe XL Combination Fire Safe: a secure safe for sorting important documents or digital media that also protects contents from fire and water damage
We reviewed the Sentry Safe XL Combination Fire Safe and I have to tell you, this is one tough (and very heavy!) safe. I love how wonderfully this safe tucks into my closet and the fact that it is very heavy would make it near impossible for someone to walk away with. It is heavy enough to be solid and sturdy, but also light enough that it can be moved (with some effort) if needed. I love the amount of space inside, and I was able to store quite a few items in here. Once you know the combination code (it comes attached to your manual) it is very easy to open and re-close.
I can see where this product (along with the others) could be a wonderful addition for a senior family member, especially if they are living in assisted care or in a situation where they might have a need to lock up valuables. This safe is just the right size because it tucks in nicely without being too bulky and will hold a nice amount of contents — everything from paperwork to family valuables and more.
