Disclosure: I did receive this movie for review purposes. All thoughts, opinions and experiences are 100% my own!

If you are looking for a movie that will touch your heart, promote conversation and awareness and delivers a powerful and heartwarming experience then LION is it.

There is a reason that this movie received so many Academy Award nominations, so beautifully done and in my opinion, a must see.

This film has a wonderful cast and Nicole Kidman is brilliant in her role. It does move slow in parts, but it’s necessary to tell the story – and definitely worth absorbing if the viewer is going to get the full effect of the film.

About LION: Five-year-old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of Kilometers across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

Movies like this are the types of films that change things. They change the way that we see the world, they change our perspective and our outlook on the world around us. I think that this is a wonderful movie to watch with teens and tweens to open up doors of communication. It’s not an easy watch at times, and it dives deeply into a parent’s love for their child, and that alone will sucker punch you. Have the tissues handy but definitely put this film on your list of must-sees if you haven’t already. LION is available NOW on Blu-ray and DVD!

In this film, young Saroo associates memories of his childhood with the smell the jalebi, which is a deep fried type sugary snack. This emotional reaction to a childhood treat actually plays a very strong turning point in the film.

We had the chance to try jalebi (shown below) and it has a very distinct taste and smell. My son loved it, my daughter and I liked it and my hubby didn’t like it at all. It’s a very unique taste, and I can totally see where it is something that would bring you back to a specific moment in time.

The Soundtrack from Lion is so beautiful, very dramatic and moving. It features wonderful pieces by Dustin O’Halloran & Hauschka and also the wonderful song Never Give Up by Sia. You can listen to samples of the soundtrack here.
