My Netflix Adventures and Picks for November Viewing #StreamTeam

I was recently asked to become a member of the Netflix Stream Team. What this means is that not only will I be reviewing Netflix, but I will be sharing my experience with all of you. I was really excited to accept this opportunity because to be honest, I have been hearing more and more about Netflix and how “smart” it has become.

Years (and years!) ago, I was a Netflix member. We used to get the DVDs in the mail and send them back and forth. We loved that then, but I have to say … Netflix has come SO far. We are now using Apple TV to stream Netflix movies into our home, and I have to tell you… this rocks! The set up was EASY (and seriously, I never think tech stuff is easy!) and quick. Within 15 minutes we were looking in amazement at the HUGE selection of movies. The service is so easy to navigate and it even recognizes the different viewers in our family, and keeps track (and makes suggestions!) as to what shows that we might want to watch.

Deciding on what to watch for our first official family Netflix gathering wasn’t too tough, even though there were SO many movies to choose from. We decided that we wanted to go with an “Oldie” so we selected Shane, which is an old western movie that both my hubby and I remembered from childhood. It is so cool to be able to look through entire decades of classics, it was definitely a trip down memory lane. It is also kind of a long movie, so it was nice to be able to pause it at bedtime and resume right where we left off a few nights later.

We love books around here, so the kids were pretty excited to see that Netflix also has a huge selection of movies that were inspired by favorite books! Timeless classics like The Velveteen Rabbit and The Little Engine That Could. We had a great time matching our favorite books up with movies and the kids recognized so many of the titles!

I love that these movies are all accessible when WE are ready to watch them. Television is a real treat for my kids and we really do enjoy watching movies together as a family, but one thing that I have really struggled with are the commercials/content that I can’t control with our regular television viewing. With Netflix, I don’t have to worry about that. I love that we can select a show and I don’t have to worry about what might or might not pop up in between shows. If my kids earn a movie, I can select the duration and we can even pause it in the middle if need be. Here is just a peek at some of the book inspired children’s movies that Netflix offers:

Big Kids
1.Hugo
2.Escape to Witch Mountain NEW!
3.James and the Giant Peach
4.The Baby-Sitters Club
5.Goosebumps
6.A Wrinkle in Time
Little Kids
1. Charlotte’s Web NEW!
2.The Velveteen Rabbit
3.The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Stories
4.The Magic School Bus
5.The Little Engine That Could
6.Stuart Little 2

I am excited to continue to share our Netflix adventures with you!
