Meet my Happy. Isn’t he a hunk? He’s also needy, messy, he eats a LOT of groceries and he really likes his breakfast early. (Like before the crack of dawn early!)
Let me back up a bit and explain. Several months ago I was feeling anxious and stressed and maybe even a little depressed about so many things, things that were out of my control. You might have experienced similar feelings. I felt like I was having a hard time finding my happy (any happy) among all of the noise and sadness in the world. So what’s a girl to do?
I adopted a mule. That whole sentence sounds odd and probably completely crazy to some (it even still sounds completely crazy to me!) but here’s the thing. It’s not really about adopting a mule. It was about finding a place to put my energy, something that brings me joy, finding an outlet that feeds my happy, taking on something that needed me.
And boy oh boy did he need me. He was literally bound for Mexico on a slaughter truck. I heard his story, and decided that with all of the things in the world that I couldn’t fix, I actually could fix this. And you know what, he has brought me so much happiness and joy. . . and lots and lots of kisses!
And a great reminder that happiness really is a choice and that sometimes (my dear grandmother was right!) helping others is really the very best way to help yourself. (mules included!)
