PopSockets Recycling Program Launched with TerraCycle

We LOVE PopSockets so a PopSockets recycling program is exciting news!! I’m always up for sharing ways to not only save, but reuse and recycle so I love to hear that brands like PopSockets are doing their part to create a positive impact by taking responsibility for our products at every stage of their lifecycle.

David Barnett, PopSockets Founder and CEO. “Leveraging Terracycle’s expertise, we’re aiming to recycle even more products than we create. We invite customers to recycle PopSockets merchandise and all cell phone cases through our PopSockets Recycling Program.”

How cool is that, right? I’ve said this many times, and I’ll say it again: It’s not always about saving money. It’s also about choosing the brands and products that not only last and stand up to the test of time – ahem: I’ve had the SAME PopSocket for over TWO years now and it’s still in great condition! – and it’s also about choosing brands that go the extra mile to do good. I’m all about sharing the brands that I love and WHY they earn that status.

PopSockets, maker of expandable phone grips, has partnered with recycling leader TerraCycle to create a FREE recycling program for PopSockets products and packaging, as well as ANY brand of cellular phone case.

About PopSockets

PopSockets was founded in 2010 by former philosophy professor David Barnett. Barnett was looking for a way to prevent his earbud cord from getting tangled, and he glued two buttons to the back of his phone and wrapped them around the buttons. In 2014, PopSockets was launched out of his garage in Boulder, Colorado and today has offices in Boulder, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Helsinki. Over 150 million PopSockets grips have been sold around the world. PopSockets exists to change the world for the better with innovative, magical products and community empowered activism. Products include the PopGrip®, PopWallet®, PopMount® and an entire swappable ecosystem of products, all designed to increase the functionality of devices we use daily. In the fall of 2018, PopSockets premiered the Poptivism program—a charitable give-back platform – the democratization of creation and giving where PopSockets donates 50% of the sale price to the 501(c)(3) of choice. The brand has donated over 3 million dollars in money and product to various nonprofits since the launch of Poptivism.

Reuse Reduce Recycle

How TerraCycle Recycles PopSockets and Other Plastics

If you haven’t before heard of TerraCycle, I really encourage you to read more about them.

They use only circular methods for repurposing the waste they collect. This means that they very intentionally reuse, reduce (upcycle) or recycle products that collect and TerraCycle promises to never landfill or incinerate the waste they received. Basically, they are tackling a huge problem in our country and God bless them for that, am I right?

We always try to recyle and reuse and upcycle when we can – but seeing brands step up to help consumers with the process is amazing!

Once collected, the waste is broken down and separated by material. Plastics are cleaned and pelletized, and metals are melted down. It’s a pretty neat process and I encourage you to read more about the TerraCycle recycling process!
