If you are a fan of Muddy Buddies then you will love these Christmas Muddy Buddies that we call our Reindeer Chow recipe. A spin on traditional Chex Mix Puppy Chow, this holiday version is pretty and delicious!

Christmas Muddy Buddies: Reindeer Chow

I love this recipe for a few reasons: it’s easy and super affordable but most of all I love it because it’s that one treat that people can’t stop snacking on and it’s always a hit at parties. 

The presentation is so colorful that it always looks pretty sprinkled on a Christmas cookie platter. We love to bag it in pretty holiday bags and gift it as gifts. 

Of course, this is the type of snack that will be a hit at your holiday parties and it looks to festive on your party table!

Ingredients for making Christmas muddy buddies

Ingredients for Muddy Buddies Reindeer Chow

Chex rice cereal 

Creamy peanut butter

Wilton dark chocolate candy melts (located in the Wilton seciton at major retailers. You could also substitute chocolate chips if needed)

Powdered sugar

Vanilla

Red & green holiday M&M’s

Mixing Muddy Buddies

Directions for Making Muddy Buddies Reindeer Chow

Pour the Wilton candy melts into a microwavable safe dish. Heat in 30 second increments stirring every 30 seconds until melted. Let cool a few minutes. 

Stir the 1 cup of peanut butter into the melted chocolate, mixing well. Next, add in the 1 tsp of vanilla, stirring. 

Pour the chocolate mix over the Chex cereal and mix well trying to coat all the cereal (see photos). 

Mix Muddy Buddies

Add the 4-5 cups of powdered sugar to a large plastic bag (a paper bag works well too) and pour the cereal and chocolate mixture into the bag. Shake well turning and shaking so that the cereal get evenly coated with powdered sugar. 

Finally add in the package of red and green holiday M&M’s and shake once more.

Store in an airtight container up to 1 week (if it lasts that long 😉 )
