Review of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (episode one)
A few days ago I attended D23 Expo in Anaheim for a intensive few days packed full of all things Disney and that included some amazing sneak peeks at Disney’s new version of an old favorite: High School Musical: The Musical: The Series! It all started with a fun musical teaser in the Disney+ presentation and then off we went to screen the very FIRST episode of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but we loved it! Fans of the original Original High School Musical movies, I was worried that it might take away from what we knew and loved of the original story. But I have to say, this series was brilliantly thought out. The cast is darling and the storyline starts out so good, you’ll be hooked.
This series is basically about a group of high school kids who audition and eventually begin to put together their own “High School Musical”. Of course it’s laced with friendship drama, teenage love interests, and a very fun cast of different and diverse kids and personalities. We really enjoyed the playful feel of this storyline and the way that the cast interacts and the chemistry between them. The musical numbers are fun and exciting and the music definitely gets stuck in your head. It’s all a very fun and refreshing show that will be perfect for young audiences and yet, a strong enough story line that adults can enjoy it as well.
I feel confident that each episode will not only be entertaining, but will also provide timely and relevant teen topics that can also be used as conversation starters. I really enjoy shows like this that I can watch with my kids, especially when they lead to connecting with them through fun and uplifting content.
I also love the “mockumentary” angle that they take, it’s got humor, fun teenage characters and some fantastic singing and dance numbers. Plus, I’m always looking for fun things to do with the kids, and ways to connect with them.
