Be Brave.
Be Kind.
Be You.

I love reading with my daughter. It’s a bond that we’ve shared since she was teeny tiny but I also love seeing her find her own favorite books and favorite authors to inspire her. We were recently asked to review Ask Emma by Sheryl and Carrie Berk. I always proceed into these book reviews with caution. (we review MANY books that you never hear about, let’s just put it that way.) But this book review interested me immediately for a few reasons. First of all, it’s written by a mother/daughter team and secondly, it focuses on the topics of anti-bullying and positive messaging for girls. So right away, I knew that we had to check this out.

About the Book

BE BRAVE. BE KIND. BE YOU.

Emma Woods knows just how to fix all her peers’ problems-or so she thinks-in this first book in the brand-new middle grade series Ask Emma, from the bestselling creators behind the Cupcake Club series!

When 13-year-old Emma Woods gets that tingling feeling in her fingertips, she knows she’s on to a great idea–and starting an advice blog for her classmates at Austen Middle may be one of her most brilliant ones yet! Who better to give advice on friendship, style, school, and even crushes than someone who’s going through it too?

But when Ask Emma goes live, she quickly realizes not everyone sees it that way. Suddenly, Emma is bombarded with peers asking her to help them postpone quizzes, get out of detention, and cut gym class short. This wasn’t exactly what she had in mind. . . .What’s worse, someone is posting hurtful comments, telling her to mind her own business. Despite her good intentions, Emma’s blog seems to only be getting her-and her friends–deeper and deeper into trouble.

Will Ask Emma come to an end before it’s really begun? Or can Emma find her voice, write what’s in her heart, and truly stand up for what she believes in?

I love that my daughter loves this book. She relates to the main character Emma, and I appreciate the timely messaging and content that this book is providing. Plus, she can’t put it down, literally:

And just for fun, and because my 13 year old son was the photographer – I wanted to share with you some of the out takes from our fun little photo shoot. This is the result of having the teen take the pics, but I’ll give him points for never being boring!!
