Organic Matcha Green Tea Latte Recipe
Before I start sharing my excitement over my current favorite Organic Matcha Green Tea Latte recipe, I feel the need to disclose that I’m STILL a coffee girl. I love my coffee. However, as I’m getting older, I’m noticing that it’s quite possibly that coffee doesn’t love me nearly as much as I love it. I get a headache without it and I’m absolutely certain that while it does give me energy momentarily, it’s fleeting and I’m looking for more and more ways to do some good things for my body. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ready to say goodbye to coffee just yet, but at the advice of a friend, I’ve added something new to my lineup. This Organic Matcha Green Tea Latte recipe is not only a great replacement for my coffee, it’s also got some amazing health benefits.
Matcha green tea is all the rage right now, and for good reason! Just one serving is the nutritional equivalent of over 10 cups of regular green tea. It’s extremely high in antioxidants, boosts your metabolism, detoxifies the body and has been shown to help lower both cholesterol and blood sugar. It’s also high in L-theanine, which is a rare amino acid that has a calming effect on the body and helps relieve stress and anxiety. Organic Matcha Green Tea Latte
(makes two 8 ounce lattes)
Ingredients
12 ounces almond milk (*I use almond milk to keep it light, but feel free to use whole milk for an even richer drink)
4 ounces coconut water
2 teaspoons organic 100% Matcha Powder
2-3 teaspoons honey (or other natural sweetener)
I love using honey, but of course you can use any natural sweetener. I also prefer this to be on the sweeter side, which I think is a nice contrast to the earthiness of the Matcha. The first time you make this, I suggest starting with less and adding more as needed.
Instructions
Pour the almond milk and coconut water into a small pan and heat until warm. Do not boil this or make it too hot. If you do, it will create too much pressure in the blender, and you’ll have a mess on your hands. You can also do this in the microwave.
Add the warmed almond milk, coconut water, Matcha powder and sweetener to a blender and blend for 15-20 seconds or until smooth and frothy.The nice thing about using the blender is that it makes it frothy, so there’s no need to buy a frother.
Pour into mugs and enjoy while it’s warm or pour it over ice! Added note, from a coffee drinker perspective. Tea isn’t meant to be as hot as coffee but if you want it hotter, you can microwave it for a few seconds after you’ve poured it into the mugs. I personally like my coffee and my tea extra hot.
