Cast Iron Skillet Strawberry Cobbler Recipe

My Skillet Blueberries and Cream Cobbler recipe has been so popular, that I thought I would changes things up a bit and share with you another of our favorite (and easy!) cast iron skillet cobbler recipes which is this Cast Iron Skillet Strawberry Cobbler recipe.

Not only is it yummy, it’s super duper easy! We are finishing up the last of our strawberry harvest right now so cobbler is a pretty common dessert around here.

We love cooking in our cast iron. I have no idea why, but it really makes these desserts taste delicious.

You can make these recipes without cast iron, but I highly recommend giving cast iron cooking a shot if you haven’t yet. SO yummy and it really does create a unique tasting finished dessert.

Ingredient for Cast Iron Skillet Strawberry Cobbler

1 stick of butter
A quart of Strawberries hauled and sliced (1 quart)
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of self rising flour
1 cup of milk

*For this recipe, I used a 10″ cast iron skillet.

How to make Strawberry Cobbler in a Cast Iron Skillet

Pre-heat oven at 350 degree.
On stove top Melt 1 stick of butter.
In a separate bowl mix 1 c. self rising flour, 1 c. sugar, 1 c. milk.
Stir till batter is smooth. Pour batter into the skillet over the butter.
Do not stir. Add Strawberries to the top. Do not stir. (important to NOT stir)
Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 45 minutes or until golden brown on top.

One of the things that I love about skillet cooking is that you can dump everything into the skillet and it all comes out a beautifully cooked masterpiece after baking. The crust rises to the top as the cobbler bakes and surrounds the berries perfectly.

Top with ice cream and you have yourself a beautiful dessert that took only minutes to make!

Cast Iron Cobbler

Does cooking with cast iron raise iron levels?

I started cooking with cast iron during my first pregnancy because my iron levels were really low.

Due to my anemia, my doctor gave me a list of things that would help raise my iron levels and I was shocked to find that cooking with a cast iron skillet can actually raise your iron levels.

That is what originally got us hooked on cast iron cooking in the first place, but since we love the results – the fact that it adds iron to your diet is such a bonus! Iron is an essential nutrient for our bodies, so it’s a win/win!

If you do end up cooking in cast iron in hopes of upping your iron levels, there are a few great articles out there to help you to determine which foods (and which types of cast iron pans) will benefit you the most when cooking with cast iron.

How to Serve Cast Iron Skillet Strawberry Cobbler Recipe

My family loved to eat cobbler right out of the skillet, however that probably isn’t the best option for serving guests.

Definitely slice your cobbler just like a pie, although it will be a bit more a a chunk than a slice, and then of course you’ll want to top your cobbler with vanilla ice cream.

My son and hubby love to pour milk over their cobbler although I prefer the ice cream, as it eventually melts all over and turns in to a wonderful creamy mixture anyway. Unless you eat it super fast, which is also very possible, lol!

Like I mentioned above, I used a 10″ cast iron skillet to make this cobbler. However, if you have the smaller cast iron skillets, it’s also fun to make individual serving sizes for your guests. (I’ve had a hard time finding the tiny cast iron skillets lately, so let me know if you see them!)

  2. Oh gosh Linda, I’ll have to check for you. I have done it in both my small and large and the larger one just makes a thicker cobbler. But GREAT question, I’ll try to measure and get back to you!

  5. I used a 12″ skillet as that’s what I have, I just half-doubled the recipe and it worked perfectly. So 1 1/2 c of milk, sugar, and self raising flour and a quart and a half of fresh local strawberries. I also added an egg for a little extra richness. It is DELICIOUS.
