I started writing about StoryWorth books a few years ago. I ended up giving my mother with a StoryWorth book membership and I can’t even tell you what a neat experience it has been.  See my favorite things and thoughts about StoryWorth and see my Remento review down below, this way you will have insight into both books.

StoryWorth Book: The Perfect Gift

Giving this type of gift to family members is priceless, and I think that this is the most fabulous idea for a Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift. I even love the idea of gifting this to yourself. I mean, the gift of story is a beautiful thing, truly priceless. The gift of family stories, even more so! A great way to document life stories in a hardcover printed book – it’s like giving the gift of time and story, all in one!

Give them the gift of story with StoryWorth books

Everyone has a Family History Story to Tell

Now that I’ve experienced the process of gifting someone a StoryWorth book, and watching them go through the creation process, I can truly say that this is a gift that is a little life changing. A gift that literally arrives by email (so all you need is an email address!) and the magic of your loved one telling their life story begins.

Do you know what your mother’s favorite t.v. show was in high school? Or who your father’s best childhood friend was? What about their favorite college memories? Local hangouts? Grade school friends?

Watching my mom write and tell her story, was an amazing opportunity for me, and I think she enjoyed the process as well.

We all have a story but sometimes life gets in the way and the people in our life never know the “before”. The life they had before you came along, and the things that make them who they are.

StoryWorth makes this possible and the process itself is one that can also be an enjoyable and bonding experience. Plus, they make it affordable. I mean, you couldn’t even come close to publishing a beautiful bound book for this price. Such a unique gift, which is probably why it’s been mentioned in the New York Times as a great gift idea and by many others (including me!) as the “best gift idea” ever!

Nick Baum, the founder of StoryWorth literally (pun intended!) created the easiest way to record your family stories and print them in beautiful hardcover books.

Our StoryWorth Review

Here’s a peek at a video I made to best explain how the process works:

StoryWorth Reviews 2020

I truly believe that this company took off like crazy due to the amazing StoryWorth customer reviews. I first really started noticing that others were catching on to the Storyworth craze in 2019 and then by 2020, there were so many raving StoryWorth reviews. I wasn’t the only one that loved this amazing service!

You’ll find 1000s of other reviews online and it’s so neat to see the life changing and priceless moments and memories these books have created.

How to make a StoryWorth book

When you purchase a StoryWorth book as a gift, your recipient will receive an email (that you can customize!) announcing your gift. This guides them into the process of how it works.

Each week you will be able to select and send mom a different question via a weekly email. At the end of the year, her answers will be bound in a beautiful keepsake book.

How does StoryWorth work?

StoryWorth provides sample questions to choose from, or you can write your own.

This book and experience can be as personalize as you want it to be, and you can also go at your own pace. Send them weekly or skip a week if life gets busy or mom falls behind.

Once you select questions, StoryWorth will email out the questions and my favorite part is that when they get answered, you can receive mom’s answer in an email, how cool is that?

You can even add other recipients as well, so the whole family can enjoy mom’s stories or you can keep them private until the book is revealed. It’s all up to you!

StoryWorth Book Example and Sample Questions

As you can see from my Mom’s book example, they turn out really neat. Writer’s can create their own, or they can answer prompt questions sent in emails. Here are some StoryWorth sample questions to give you an idea of how this might work:

StoryWorth Questions

A lot of people ask me about the questions because they worry that they won’t be a fit for their loved one. That’s the great part. While they will received StoryWorth questions via email, you can also answer your own questions and make your own stories, chapters and more.

While StoryWorth will send out questions, you are not at all tied to answering them. I think people worry “What kind of questions does StoryWorth ask?” and honestly – they are really good – and if you don’t like one, just skip it or substitute it with your own.

I’ll be honest, I did very little work in creating my mom’s book.

She did all of the question selection. My mom is a beautiful writer, so she enjoyed the process and uploaded some wonderful family photos that I had never seen. She even ended up doing some online research and included some genealogy information, old newspaper clippings and more!

These books are also beautifully put together and bound professionally, so not only is this a neat finished product, but very high quality as well.

How to Gift Storyworth to Someone

Wondering how to gift Storyworth to someone? It’s easy! Once you purchase their book, you can select when the recipient will receive their gift announcement. Storyworth is a great last minute gift because you can literally order it at the last minute and still give a very thoughtful and amazing gift.

How Many Pages Can a Storyworth Book Have

Storyworth books have a maximum page count of 480 pages. If your stories exceed the maximum page count, they can be split up into separate volumes for an additional cost. I feel like exceeding this amount would be really rare as 480 is a LOT of pages and would be a really, really large book.

What Do You Get with a Storyworth Package?

The standard package includes a year’s worth of story prompts for one storyteller, unlimited recipients (people with whom the storyteller’s stories are shared), and one hardcover book with a black & white interior (and a full color cover). This includes a maximum page count of 480.

Can I purchase extra Storyworth Books?

You can order additional books at the end of the subscription year. The pricing for additional copies of your book is as follows:

• $39: Black and white interior, up to 480 pages
• $79: Color books, up to 300 pages
• $99: Color books above 300 pages, up to 480 pages

As I mentioned above, Remento is another option if you are looking for personalized life story books for yourself or for gifting. Plus, I’ve got a coupon code for Remento as well:

Order or gift a Remento book here and SAVE $10 on your purchase!

What is Remento?

Basically, Remento has taken the story writing process and not only made the finished book and quality better, but they’ve made the process easier PLUS they’ve added a video element that creates a whole new dimension of priceless memory creation.

I still love both book options, but do feel like Remento gives more bang for your buck. I’ve personally reviewed a book and am now working on creating another, so I will update with a full review soon, but because this is such a timely holiday gift item, I wanted to update this very popular post with my opinion so that you have all of the options when decided which book company to go with.

Another reason that I really do feel Remento is the best choice is because that I know so many of you purchase this book gift for older parents, and I have to say – the customer service experience is so much better with Remento and I feel like they go out of their way to help their customers through the process, where Storyworth seems to be a bit lacking in that area. *And to be transparent, not being able to get help from StoryWorth when I needed it is how I ended up learning more about Remento in the first place.

Order or gift a Remento book here and SAVE $10 on your purchase!

Either way, I do think either a Remento or a Storyworth book is a fabulous and priceless gift offer. If I were going to purchase a gift to give this holiday season, I would go with Remento as I do believe they’ve just perfected this concept.

  1. I am interested in purchasing multiple books for my family but have some questions before I purchase. I am in the process of writing my story and want to know if there is a limit on pages, limit on number of pictures, and the cost of color as versus black and white. I have added many pictures and would like to understand if there is a limit or how much each picture adds to the cost. Should I continue to add photos or am I at a limit. I really am enjoying this process and am excited to finish and get my book published.

  5. Hello Keri Lyn: you did not fully answer the questions. What is the cost of a color book versus a black and white? That means the initial book as well as extra copies. I personally do not want a black and white book at all, so I need to know the extra cost for the initial book.. Another question is – how many words per page? The samples look to be double spaced with substantial margins, so I want to gauge how long each “answer” should be.

  6. Storyworth website doesn’t say or not give a lot of info inside the book and you did!

Thanks a lot for this. Definitely getting for my loved ones.

  7. Thank you for the comment Kat, sorry I didn’t see it sooner but it meant a lot to hear that my review helped! I can’t say enough good things about these books!

  8. I think that there is a voice recording feature for people who don’t want to or can’t type I hope that answers your question. God bless 🙂

  9. What if you have already written your life story for your grandchildren, can you skip the years worth of questions and just get it and some photos printed into a book?

  10. My son Matthew Starkey has purchased books for us but I would like to purchase an additional book for each of us our individual stories, how do I go about this?

  11. Will there be an extra charge if I go past 1 year of writing? I am slow at writing the stories also how many story prompts are given in the year or is it just the amount of words allowed? In other words, can I still answer questions past the year without an extra charge if I don’t go over the 480-page limit? Thank you

  12. I have completed my storyworth book and added photos, however when I try to preview the book, there are only 2 photo’s and not all the photos I added. I am worried about placing the order like this. I need some help please.

  13. What is the size of the book,?
I’m not clear about the questions csn a husband and wife share the quedtions in 1 book? Like where were you born. Your grandparents, great grandparents
One page for me and one for him o sharing 1 book.

  14. My name is Sharon Bosler and I purchased a Storyworth account for my son, Paul Bosler Jr. in April , 2022. He asked for an extension to the year to be able to finish his stories due to his many commitments to his work. Last Sunday, August 13, 2023, he died in an accident at Lake Monroe near Bloomington, Indiana. Is there any way I can get the stories he has written or was he saving them all to be published when he finished his writings? His wife is too distressed to bother her with this right now, but I’d hate to have his work wasted and not published if he has submitted stories to you.
