DIY Body Scrub for Men Recipe

Got a hard working man with soil, grease, or otherwise stained and rough hands?

Looking for a good DIY Body Scrub to make? Have I got a wonderful homemade body scrub recipe for you. The great thing about homemade skin care products is that not only are they usually less expensive than store bought brands, but they are also an excellent choice because you know exactly what key ingredients are in them and you don’t have to worry about artificial ingredients. This is one of the best exfoliating scrubs we’ve made for creating smoother skin with just a few ingredients!

This Citrus and Clove Homemade Body Scrub for Men smells reminiscent of the old hand cleaner I remember from my grandfather’s workshop, but a little updated and moisturizing as well.

All the ingredients in this gentle scrub recipe are simple natural ingredients that you don’t have to worry over, and don’t worry it’s not just for men it makes a great hand and foot scrub for the ladies too.

As a veterinarian, my hubby is washing his hands over and over all day long, which makes for a rough skin texture and some very dry skin! He’s not one to go out and purchase a body scrub for himself, but I can help him have healthy skin by providing something that he will use – and this is the best scrub for men that I’ve found and it makes his skin look better and more refreshed, especially after it helps to sluff off those dead skin cells. This isn’t really a body scrub to use on a daily basis, but a few times a week (or even once a week!) and you’ll start to see a little bit of difference.

How to Make the Best DIY Body Scrub for Men

The best thing is that the main ingredient items are affordable and accessible and will help to create the perfect scrub.

I made this body scrub with my hubby in mind and he really loves it. The scent of this homemade body scrub is masculine enough that it doesn’t threaten his manhood the way my gardenia scrub might.

Father’s Day is just around the corner and a large jar of this with, oh say… a wrench, screwdriver, or shop rags would make a thoughtful homemade gift.

How to Make Homemade Body Scrub for Men

Finely grate or shave soap – it should be near powder form.

Man Scrub
Combine sea salt, baking soda, coconut oil, grated soap, and essential oils.

Grate the peel of 1 lemon or orange into your mixture, combine well.
Transfer hand scrub to a shallow jar with a wide mouth, this makes it much easier to get out. Be sure that your jar also has a good tight fitting lid for storage. I also recommend using glass not plastic to store because essential oils can break down many plastics.

Men Body Scrub

One thing that I really love about this Homemade Body Scrub for Men as a homemade gift idea is that it’s so practical and it shows that you put thought and love into your gift selection. Plus, this is a gift that doesn’t take a long time to make and the end result is a good face scrub with no harsh chemicals. This is the best body scrub that I’ve found for my boys and while my husband only uses this scrub as a body wash, my son actually uses it as a facial cleanser for gentle exfoliation (use a gentle small circular motion if using it as a face wash / scrub) and has found it to be a great way to smooth skin by removing dead cells.

Best Body Scrub Skin Type Variations

Depending on your man’s skin type (normal skin, oily skin, etc) you might try different variations of this body scrub for men. I’ve tried recipes that include coffee grounds or ground walnut shells / bits but they seem too harsh, and this is more of a mild scrub but still one of the best exfoliators that I’ve made at home.

If you are going to use this as a natural face scrub, I definitely recommend using this very gently at first – in small amounts with warm water – and for best results test your skin out slowly to see how it reacts. For sensitive skin, any body of face exfoliator can be harsh or damaging, so it’s best to slowly find out what works for you (or your man!) If you do find that you have sensitive skin, you might consider adding a bit of vitamin E or even purchase some Aloe Vera cream to apply after exfoliating.

  1. This turned out so well for me and smells amazing! I used homemade soap which made tiny curls when finely grated, but it still worked perfectly. I took a chance and melted the coconut oil before adding it and I’m glad I did. Thanks for the recipe! My brother-in-law and husband will love it!
