Words (and lessons!) to Live By: Word of Mouse
I have always had a thing for mice. Seriously. I actually collect them. My grandmother and I shared a love for them, and of course that same love was passed down to my daughter. We just love cute little things and mice happen to be cute and little!
James Patterson’s newest illustrated middle grade story follows the illuminating journey of a very special mouse, and the unexpected friendships that he makes along the way.
What makes Isaiah so unique? First, his fur is as blue as the sky—which until recently was something he’d never seen, but had read all about. That’s right—Isaiah can read, and write. He can also talk to humans…if any of them are willing to listen! After a dramatic escape from a mysterious laboratory, Isaiah is separated from his “mischief” (which is the word for a mouse family), and has to use his special skills to survive in the dangerous outdoors, and hopefully find his missing family. But in a world of cruel cats, hungry owls, and terrified people, it’s hard for a young, lone mouse to make it alone. When he meets an equally unusual and lonely human girl named Hailey, the two soon learn that true friendship can transcend all barriers.
Where to purchase?
Here is a list of all of the places that you can purchase Word of Mouse. I honestly think this would be such a fantastic gift for a child. Full of adventure but even more than that, full of words that matter. Uplifting phrases and so many wonderful thoughts and inspiring insights into the littlest of things.
Why we love this book?
Aside from our love of mice, books and words… we also love how this story was told. Very unique but captivating with a story that you just don’t want to put down. The illustrations are fantastic and this is the type of book that really encourages a love for reading. I asked my daughter to pick her favorite quote from the book (there are lots of quotes!) and she picked “Leave No Mouse Behind” because she said that’s what friends do… they don’t leave each other behind. Such a simple answer but I’ll take it. I love that message and I love that it was a message that she picked up on.
Who is this book for?
The recommended reading is for children ages 8 to 10 but I have to tell you, it’s for moms too! I really loved reading this with my daughter.
