Paper Plate Pizza Craft Idea

This paper plate pizza craft is such a fun little craft to do with your kids! You probably already have all of the supplies you need to make this Paper Plate Pizza Craft idea. Kids love to create (and who doesn’t love pizza?) so it’s a great way have fun crafting with the kids by using paper plates as pizza crust and construction paper for all of the fun pizza toppings!

This activity also makes for a wonderful classroom activity (throw a pizza party!) for preschool or kindergarten aged children because you can adjust it to all levels. Older kids might enjoy helping the littles make their homemade pizza craft – much fun for all!

You can use the cutting of the pieces as a cutting exercise and add in glue bottles if you want to use this as a gluing exercise as well. You could also use the different colors and pieces for color identification drills, counting skills and depending on the age of the children you could also work on different fractions and number / counting scenarios as well!

Once the kids are done with their paper plate pizza craft creations, you can use them to decorate your wall with all of their pizzas and this theme would go great with any food themed units that you might be working on!

Pizza Plate Craft Supplies

What You Need to Make Paper Plate Pizzas

  • Paper plate (any will do but I love Glad paper plates)
  • Red paint (pizza sauce)
  • Paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Colored construction paper for your toppings (Red, Brown, Black, Yellow, Green)
  • Glue (optional)

Additional paper plate pizza topping ideas:

Pom Pom balls are fun for pepperoni pieces

Tissue paper is fun for shredding for cheese or pineapple pieces

Get creative! Ask the kids what their favorite toppings are and have them come up with ways to create them, so fun!

Pizza Paper Craft
Draw your topping according to your color construction paper
Red – pepperoni
Brown – mushrooms
Black – olives
Yellow – cheese (for the cheese I just cut strips)
Green – green peppers
*Be creative and choose toppings you like!

Toppings for Pizza Craft
Using your scissors, cut out each topping.

Red Paint
Place some red paint on your paper plate and using your paint brush, spread it all around (I used this to act as glue as well, so you can be generous here!). If you would rather that the kids use bottled glue, you can let the paint dry and then they can add the pieces individually by applying glue to each piece.

Pizza Kids Craft
Once your plate is covered with the “sauce” go ahead and put your toppings on!

Pizza Craft
Press down so secure the toppings to the “sauce” since this is going to act as your glue.

Paper Plate Pizza Craft

Like I mentioned above, this is a craft that you can tailor to the learning level of the children in the classroom. You could even do something like this for older children and have them get really creative in making their own specialty pizzas.

You could also use this craft as a way for kids to work on shape identification. Big and small squares, circles, etc. You might consider adding additional paint colors like yellow paint (cheese) and brown paint (mushrooms) so that kids can work on their identification skills. If you really want to have fun, order in real pizza to go along with the fun and then the kids can enjoy a slice of pizza while creating their own pizzas! Pizza parties are the BEST!!

I love this craft because it’s easy and fun and like I said, who doesn’t love pizza!? In fact, if you are looking for REAL pizza recipes, I’ve got some of those too! Including a fun Valentine’s Day Heart Shaped Pizza Recipe that the kids will love. You’ll also find a Pizza Salad recipe, a fun Veggie Pizza recipe and even an easy Mini Pizza recipe that the kids can make themselves!
