Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing Recipe
Nothing beats homemade, and this homemade Blue Cheese Dressing recipe is no exception. It has so much flavor, and is so much better than a store bought version. We use this for everything from salad dressing (obviously) to veggie dips, and I have even been known to put it on sandwiches. It has such a wonderful kick to it, and if you love blue cheese, then you will love this dressing!
Blue Cheese Dressing
(makes appx. 3 cups of dressing)
Dressing Ingredients
1 cup blue cheese, crumbled
1/4 cup buttermilk
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons red wine vinegar
Juice of one small lemon
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2-3 chives, finely sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
Milk, if needed
Dressing Instructions
Add buttermilk, mayonnaise, sour cream, and garlic powder to a medium size bowl and whisk until smooth.
Next add the juice of one small lemon, Worcestershire sauce, red wine vinegar, and chives and whisk to combine.
Stir in the blue cheese crumbles and taste for seasoning. We like a lot of pepper in ours, so I added 1/2 teaspoon pepper and just a pinch of salt. You can also add more vinegar, lemon or Worcestershire to suit your tastes at this point.
If the dressing is too thick, you can add a splash or two of milk to thin it out as needed.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes prior to serving.
** We use a full cup of blue cheese, and I like to crumble some pieces really small, because I feel it gives the dressing more blue cheese flavor. Then I leave some larger, so you get delicious bites of blue cheese as you eat it. If you feel a full cup might be too much for you, you can always start with less and add more as needed.
This homemade Blue Cheese Dressing recipe goes wonderfully with my Wedge Salad recipe!
