PetSmart Passports

I LOVE the PetSmart Passports to Summer that PetSmart sent to each of our “pet kids”. As you can see above, they are all set to hit the road for summer adventure! It’s a good thing, because we include them in many of our summer activities!

If you love your pets like we love ours, then you know what an important part of summer fun that pets can be! The folks at PetSmart reached out to see if I would share some of our favorite summertime safety tips and since my hubby is a veterinarian, this was right up our alley! Summer can be very fun for pets, but it can also be hard on them… so keeping them happy and safe is a top priority!

One important part of summer is outdoor play, and PipSqueak is all ready for that with his new PetSmart toys! Now the only question is… will he share?

Another key element of summer is travel. We travel a lot in the summer, and many of our trips are by car, up into the Idaho mountains! We love to take the dogs along, and if you love to travel with your pets, check out this helpful list of summer travel tips for hitting the road with pets:

Puppies and kittens can thrive on the road – with a little bit of preparation. Just like the pool, the car can be either a thrilling or frightening new place. Be sure to make their first car experience a positive one. Here’s a few ways to make that happen:

Keep your puppy safe with car specific products like Top Paw® Pet Safety Harness or Top Paws®Seat Belt Strap.Screen Shot 2015-08-06 at 3.35.40 PM

And for kittens, carriers are the best way to go. Whisker City® Soft Sided Carrier and Petmate®Compass Fashion Pet Carrier keeps your kitty safe without sacrificing fashion.

If your trip is long, factor in potty breaks. And don’t forget to bring lots of water to keep your puppy or kitten hydrated. When you do make pit stops, make sure to keep safety in mind as new environments can be distracting to a curious puppy. Your pet should have their collar on with an ID tag, and have a leash on hand. Teaching your puppy a recall command to ensure they come when called is also a great idea. Learn more with our PetSmart Training classes.

Most importantly … enjoy what is left of the summer with your pets!
