*Disclosure: I did receive this gaming system from LeapFrog to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own and were in no way influenced by another person.
Do you kids love to try out the latest gadgets? Mine do, and they especially love anything related to technology. Like most kids, they love video games, but like most parents, I struggle to find a balance between “gaming” and “learning”. LeapTV has a great solution that not only combines both gaming and learning, but they also add in the element of physical activity. And by physical activity, I mean we were ALL sweating during the LeapTV party that we hosted last week as the kids and a few friends tested out the new and very innovative gaming system.
LeapTV from LeapFrog gets kids into the action while teaching core skills across a variety of subjects including: reading, mathematics, science and problem solving. Designed for kids ages 3-8, the system uses a motion-sensing camera and controller that fits small hands. Audio instruction makes it simple for even the youngest kids to play solo or with a friend!
With a library of 9 cartridge games at launch and 100+ LeapFrog educator-approved games and videos available by year-end, kids never run out of fun! Games adapt to each child’s level-starting with the most basic skills and then automatically adjusting the learning for the perfect challenge.
What is LeapTV?
- Educational, active video gaming system
- Built just for kids ages 3-8
- Three ways to play
- Library of 100+ educator-approved games and videos that teach skills from reading to mathematics (sold separately)
- From LeapFrog, the award-wining creator of educational entertainment
Along with the LeapTV we also reviewed LeapFrog Sports and LeapFrog Dance & Learn. I am pleased to tell you that this system was SO easy to set up, right out of the box! I love how simple they made it, it literally took less than 10 minutes from the time that we unpacked to box until the kids were showing me (yes!) how to set up the wifi and create our profiles. The set-up process was so easy!
What’s in the box
- LeapTV console
- Console stand
- Motion-sensing camera
- Camera mount
- 1 transforming controller with wrist strap
- 6′ HDMI cable
- 6′ camera cord
- AC power adapter
After the kids created their profiles, they then were able to set up the motion play. This is how the system recognizes them and their body movements. I can’t believe how far technology has come, it’s amazing!
Once you have your profile set up, you are good to go! Each one of the kids were able to set up their own profile, which they thought was pretty cool. I thought it was pretty cool that this gaming system makes it so easy for a very wide range of kids to play. The controller is made so that it is easy to hold on to, which is great for little hands and yet it is very durable and easy to hang on to when you are really slashing that thing around (don’t forget to wear the wrist band!) because trust me, these games are so fun to get into and you WILL be thrashing that controller around as you hit balls and who knows what else!
We had an absolute ball with this gaming system and I was constantly reminded of just how far technology has come. I mean, the kids were having virtual rope climbing racing in our living room! Things got crazy and loud and fun and you know what my favorite part was? They were active the entire time, and to be honest, mama was worn out after our 2 hours of LeapTV play!!
Here’s a fun peek at some of the excitement:
I would highly recommend the LeapFrog LeapTV Educational Active Video Game System as a gift idea for any young kids on your list this year.
