Mark your calendars!! Disney’s PLANES FIRE AND RESCUE flies into theatres everywhere on July 18th!

Planes Director

I recently travelled to LA for a press junket for the soon to be released Disney movie Planes Fire and Rescue. We have always been big Disney fans of course, but I am always extra excited for another vehicle related film from Disney because my son literally grew up on CARS. We loved the first PlANES film and I was pretty excited to see this one. It caught me a little bit off guard though, because this film touched a bit closer to home for us. My hubby fought fires as a Type I firefighter out of Idaho for 8 years, so all of a sudden I found myself inside of a world that I have heard him talk about for so many years and everything in this film felt so familiar to me… right down to the character nicknames. As it turns out, some pretty serious research went into the making of this movie! (You can actually read my research post here)

The accurate portrayal of the world of fire and rescue didn’t happen by accident. An awesome team worked to bring this film together under the charge of these two men: Bobs Gannaway (Director) and Ferrell Barron (Producer). Meeting them was such a pleasure, and I have to say … they were so personable and fun, and it was very clear that they are so proud of this film, and rightly so!

“You have to create a believable world,  that’s one of the first things you have to do.” ~Bobs Gannaway

They spent years pulling together the details for this movie and that meant everything from studying the landscapes of the National Forests, watching fire footage, interacting with fire crews and rescue workers. They even had fire experts consult on the noises that fire makes, to make sure that every last details was realistic and would put the viewer right into this world of fire fighting.

When asked about their relationships with the men and women of fire and rescue:

Bobs Gannaway: All of the people we met, the Fire Fighters are everything you think they are. They were amazing, giving, caring, courageous people, so charming, and so giving with their time. It was really a wonderful experience and they’ve become friends of ours now.

Ferrell Barron added: Because of that, we really took this Movie to heart. We really put it on our shoulders and we wanted to tell a story that really paid a tribute and gave homage to fire fighters. They were all so honored to be talking with us and being a part of the film, helping tell their story. That was the biggest goal was, not only for  kids and parents, but we wanted to make the story for them. That’s been the biggest part of this whole project is just making sure that we’re  being truthful and making them proud to watch the Movie.

Mission accomplished, I would have to say … this movie ROCKS! I cannot wait to take my family to see this film, and my hubby was already in awe after seeing the trailer on the big screen the other night, these fire scenes are awesome and I predict a whole lot of dads sitting wide eyed through this film, it’s definitely one for the entire family!!

THUNDA…nananananana … THUNDA….

My very favorite scene from this film is one that includes a little ACDC Thunderstruck … it’s sooooooo good that it gave me goosebumps and I can’t wait for my hubby to see it. In case you have missed it (I can’t seem to stop sharing it!), crank up your volume and take a peek:

And a huge thanks to the folks at Disney for this wonderful and unforgettable experience, something I will never forget!
