SheSaved readers, please welcome Minnie from Foster Adoption, who has something fun to share with us today!!
Let’s face it, times have changed since we were kids! No longer can you hand children basic craft supplies without instruction and expect them to entertain themselves. We are now competing against computer games, video games, DVDs, hand held systems, cell phones and so much more! As parents, we really need to step up our game!
Knowing how much my foster daughter, Daffy, loves her Littlest Pet Shop toys, I provided her with a package of modeling clay and encouraged her to get to work. Granted, she did create a movie theatre for her toys, but the concept took her many hours and she put lots of details into the drinks and snacks (note that bird has a bowl of worms, lol!) Not only was she able to work on her dexterity and creativity, but she had fun doing it!
I believe the secret to inspiring today’s children to use their imagination is not to deny the toys of today, but rather embrace them and incorporate them into more creative play. I challenge you to pick up some modeling clay this week and see what your Little Picasso will come up with!
I hope you have enjoyed this project! I would also like to take a moment to remind you that May is National Foster Care Month. I hope you will take a few minutes to learn about how you can make a difference in the life of a child in foster care.
