Clark Howard Advice on Health Clubs
Clark Howard is one of my very favorites for financial tips and advice. I was listening to him this morning and hebrought up a great point about how Health Clubs, and probably any membership related clubs, are really feeling the crunch of the economic situation we are in. Time are tight and when people start to cut budgets, gym memberships and other expenses tend to go. Now might be the time to negotiate that gym membership you’ve been dreaming of.
At the very least, he says you should ask them to waive the membership fee.
Second he advises to never pay too far in advance for your membership. Pay monthly and sign no contracts or commitments. If they want your business, they can play by your rules. The fact of the matter is that health clubs go out of business all the time and if they happen to close their doors (it happens!) then you are out any money that you paid. *Unless of course you paid with a great credit card that backs up your spending (and you SHOULD definitely be paying with this type of card!) …but that’s a different conversation.
I thought this was fantastic advice and it’s almost got me considering joining that new gym in town!
