She’s Creative: Thank You Gift for Teacher or Coach

This time of year is the perfect time to re-share with you this fun idea for a thank you gift for coaches, that is both affordable (especially if you use the FREE offer below) and very meaningful. I have been making these for my son’s sports coaches for the past few years, and they are always a hit. All you need is a collage photo of the team members (I usually do an 8×10) and then a large white mat. Gather all of the team members and one by one, let them sign their names to the photo mat with a sharpie marker. If the coach has a son on the team, I usually try to highlight a photo of him and his son just to make it extra special for him. Coaching is a hard job, and I think that this gift is a great way to say thank you!

Make one for FREE through Saturday only~ Right now you can score a FREE 8×10 collage at Walgreens Photo when you use code COLLAGE4YOU at checkout! Note: You must choose the $3.99 print from the Photo Collage collection. Select in-store pick up to avoid shipping charges! Offer valid through Saturday, 5/11/2013!

I love these photo collages because if I don’t have time to make a collage, then I usually just put ONE photo on them, and then it prints with a nice black border.

Easter Bunny BeansEaster Bunny Magic | Creative Ideas for Easter

The littlest things go a long way in making holidays special. I wanted to share how our Easter bunny spells out the kid’s names in jelly beans each year. When I was a kid, our Easter Bunny did this as well, in fact… he used jelly beans to make arrows and all kinds of things to show us where where the eggs were hidden!  This is something that they get the biggest kick out of, and they love to look back at the photos! Plus, it helps them to figure out which Easter basket he left for them.

Sometimes it really is the little (and inexpensive!) things that make holidays magical! What tricks does your Easter bunny have up his sleeve?

She’s Creative: Bunny Pancakes

As you know, we are huge fans of De Wafelbakkers pancakes around here!  With Easter right around the corner, I wanted so share with you one of my favorite ways to make Easter Breakfast for my kiddos (and actually … these bunny pancakes show up quite often at our breakfast table. Something about the floppy ears just makes my kiddos smile!)

De Wafelbakkers frozen pancakes come in packs of 24 and they are separated into mini packs of 3… which is just perfect portion size for my kids, and it also happens to be the perfect amount for making a fun breakfast bunny! Just fold 2 of the pancakes in half for ears, and then add a couple jelly beans for eye and nose (chocolate chips also work great) and then I use 2 of the tiny marshmallows for little rabbit buck teeth. I used Hershey’s chocolate syrup for the bow tie (usually I use strawberries, but we didn’t have any on hand, and of course, no on complained, lol)

Little things like this just make breakfast fun!

I love Halloween arts & crafts, and here is a fun one that I created for my son’s classroom Halloween party a couple of years ago. It’s basically an extension of the every popular ghost/lollipop craft. These are so easy and fun to make and the kids love the puppet factor.

Pumpkin and Ghost Pop Up Lollipop Puppets
Super simple!!

You will need:
Cups (black cups look festive)
Kleenex for Ghosts (or white napkins) and orange napkins for Pumpkins
Sharpie marker for faces
Ribbon for tying napkins/kleenex over lollipops
Lollipops (Tootsie Roll Pops work great)
Felt and/or pipe cleaners for pumpkin top
Silk Leaves and cotton or “spider webs” for covering top of cup
Straws to use as your POP UP PUSHER

Directions: Start by covering your lollipops with kleenex/napkin, then secure the cover with a ribbon at neck of lollipop. Draw a face on your character, and also glue on stem and leaf for pumpkin. You will then stick the lollipop into a straw and tape it so that the straw is now attached to the lollipop. Poke a hole in the middle of the bottom of the cup, big enough for the straw to go through. I like to use a pencil to poke the hoe with so that the hole has some lip to it so that it grabs the straw when you are pushing it up and down. Last, push your lollipop all the way into cup and use a glue gun to cover the top of cup with leaves for the pumpkin and cotton/spider webs for the ghost. When you are done they can POP UP for a fun surprise!

I will be sharing several different Halloween Arts & Crafts over the next few days, and these Mummy Cups are one of our favorites! They are so easy to make, and they are a great way to deliver treats, especially to teachers since they double as a pencil holder! (We used clear plastic cups, but you could also use paper cups and/or you could make them like we did when I was a kid and use tin cans!)

Mummy Cup Treat and Pencil Holders
Super simple!!

You will need:
Cups
Googly Eyes (the bigger the better)
Gauze (we used Curad rolled Gauze from Walmart, which was $2.48 for 4 ft, and were were able to make 12 mummy cups with one box. I cut 2 strips right up the center for the gauze and then cut again into 12 inch strips.
Glue Gun/Sticks
Filler: Whatever goodies that you want to fill your cup with. We used popcorn.

Directions: Start by gluing the googly eyes on, and then take a strip of gauze and stick it on with a dab of glue on the back of cup and wrap around leaving room for the eyes to peep out. It takes very little glue (just a tad) because the gauze sticks very well. Fill them up with your treat of choice, and your mummy cup is done!

I will be sharing several different Halloween Arts & Crafts with you this week and the first part of next week… these are tried and true crafts that I personally created with my kids last year (and will probably do again this year) and might even give you some ideas in case you are organizing a classroom party or group function…or even just some fun activities with your kiddos!

I came up with these last year for my son’s classroom party. I thought this would be a super fun way for all of the kids to carry their Halloween treats home from school:

Google Eye Bags
Super simple!!

Ingredients:
Dark Colored Paper Bags
Glitter
Glue
Google Eyes (I prefer the box that comes with the assorted sizes)

Directions: Write each child’s name in glue … while wet, sprinkle with glitter (we used BLACK glitter) … let dry, and then add google eyes all over the bag:

Every year, the kids and I have a ball decorating for Halloween. I have mentioned before that we live in what was once a 1912 farmhouse. We have remodeled it over time, but due to it’s original age… it has what we call a “crooked charm” to it, that totally lends it for being perfect for spooky decor!

So, we  have been busy hanging cobwebs and dangling spiders and bats all over the house…. so I thought I would share our little lamp shade spiders that look so cool at night. You could really use just about anything, plastic spider or paper cut out spiders … super easy (yay!), cheap and fun! (the problem is, that my son has gotten a bit carried away, and his “snake lamp shade decor” about put me through the roof this morning when I went to turn on the lamp in his room…. lol!)

We love to play with food around here, and while I am no gourmet cook, I have a blast baking with my kids and coming up with creative and festive ideas!

This morning we made pumpkin pancakes, here’s how:

We added food coloring to our Bisquick pancake mix (Note: we didn’t have orange, so we went with yellow instead)
Then when there was just a little pancake mix left, I added green food coloring for the stems, and used a spoon to drop “leaves” on the skillet.
We cut a piece o f toast into small rectangles to use as stems, and of course, chocolate chips (FREE ones from my post here) for eyes and mouth.I love celebrating the seasons with fun little food activities like this, and it made for a really fun family breakfast together!
