Have you seen the commercials for The House? This looks like a date night movie, and it cracked me up to learn the the storyline of this film is that parents Scott and Kate have went to extreme measures to earn back their daughter’s college fund. Oh the things that we do for our kids, right?

I have to laugh when I think about the extreme measures that parents go to for their kids. Crazy kicks in and we go into overdrive trying to make their dreams come true, and it’s all done out of love. I was recently reminded of this type of crazy love when I was up until 2am making my son’s birthday cake. When my kids were babies, I started the tradition of making them handmade birthday party invitations and homemade decorated birthday cakes. It became our special tradition, or shall I say… my personal obsession!

Each year they request more challenging themes and each year I go above and beyond to make their birthday party dreams come true. Isn’t that crazy? Yes!! But you know what, I love it. I have to remind myself that I love it when I’m covered in cake mix trying to perfect the face of the latest Disney character on a cake, but it’s true. I love it. And so do they and as unnecessary as it is, it’s something I cherish (and dread, and complain about and stress over…) every single birthday. Parenting is so much fun!!

My kids aren’t near college age, but I can only imagine that my efforts will go above and beyond when they reach that age. I laughed so hard at The House trailer, these parents are so determined to not let their baby girl down!

  14. I took care of a car wash as a teen and had to dip out the ‘pits’ with a shovel. Needless to say it was next door to a Sale Barn with lots of Stock Trailers that used the Car Wash!!! Yuck.

  15. Nothing too crazy – I did make things in Junior High school to sell to my classmates.
