The Time I VEGGED OUT with VeggieTales in Nashville

Disclosure: This event and trip to Nashville was an all expense paid journey sponsored by Dreamworks. All thoughts, experiences and vegetable character crushes are 100% my own!

I am so excited to tell you about the adventures that I had a little over a week ago. I was invited to attend a press day in Nashville to VEG OUT and learn all about the latest VeggieTales happenings. My kids have been Veggie fans since they were in diapers, so I was very thrilled about accepting this invitation! You will hear me talk about the latest VeggieTales projects over the next few months for sure, but the three to keep an eye out for are: Celery Night Fever (on DVD now!), Beauty and the Beet (debuts October 14th) and VeggieTales in the House (a Netflix exclusive, coming Thanksgiving weekend!!).

The 2 day experience started with a lovely meet and greet dinner and I am not sure if it was intentional or not, but they served up some delicious veggies 🙂 among other things! The decor was darling at every meal, and I got the biggest kick out of their creativity, right down to centerpieces. Veggie clever!!

They also had some amazing technology on hand (duh!) and they were easily able to “green screen”my friend Corrie from Centsable Momma and I into our own VeggieTales setting. (below)

Celery Night FeverOne of the things that we were celebrating on this trip, was the recent release of Celery Night Fever. You can grab it on Amazon right now for $9.96 where it gets great reviews. My kids have already watched it 3 times and they love it. It has a wonderful story line to it and I love that the kids hear the message, but they also enjoy the silly humor and the relationships that occur between the characters. Oh! and the music in this one is awesome, errr. FUNKY! lol.

I think that one of my favorite parts of this experience was listening to VeggieTales co-creator Mike Nawrocki talk to us about his passion for creating these fun characters and stories that speak to children about God’s love. Mike (shown below) is also the voice of Larry, so he pretty much knows these guys inside and out!

Veggie Tales 3Another of my very (very!) favorite parts of this adventure was getting to spend time in the recording booth. We got to try our hand (voice) at voicing one of the vegetables in the soon to be released Beauty and the Beat. (I can’t wait to see this one!) Here is a peek at me doing my very best sweet potato voice:

Veggie Tales 4Ok and so while I loved (loved!) the voice over work, I really. really. really loved the sketch work that we got to do with VeggieTales story artist Frankie Franko III. He is so talented and I had a blast hanging out and sketching with him. I seriously could have done this all day! Here is how my sketches turned out: Veggie Tales 5

And the finished product:

As if all of that was not amazing enough… the icing on the cake was an interview with Kellie Picker. Kellie voices the darling character Mirabelle in the soon to be released (October 14th, 2014, and don’t worry … I will be reminding you!) Beauty and the Beet. I got the biggest kick out of listening to Kellie talk about her role as this cute sweet potato, but I also enjoyed listening to her perspectives on fame, life and quite a few things in between. She is as sweet as can be and I found her very down to earth. Isn’t she the cutest??

About Beauty and the Beet: Just in time for the holidays – the veggies return in the winter-themed Beauty and the Beet, an all-new take on the classic fairy tale. Pickler stars as Mirabelle, the sweet-potato lead singer of a family band that meets with unexpected trouble when an angry innkeeper makes them feel unwelcome. As she befriends the Beet and matches his harshness with loving acts, Mirabelle proves that compassion and kindness reap their own rewards.

Beauty and the Beet features seven original songs performed by Pickler, which will be collected on a companion CD that features a special rendition of “Deck the Halls” also sung by Pickler. The soundtrack album will be released to coincide with the DVD and will be available for download via iTunes.

Netflix Fans! Another cool thing that I learned on this trip is that those of you that love Netflix like I do will appreciate: Coming Thanksgiving weekend … A brand-new Netflix original TV series called: VeggieTales In the House will premiere exclusively on the streaming platform!

This is so exciting to me because I love that we can count on VeggieTales to be good quality viewing for our kids, even on a moments notice! We were able to see a few clips of these new series, and I have to tell you, the kids are going to LOVE it. I felt like it was kind of a whole new Veggie world, and it seems to have an element of excitement that they are going to go crazy for. They changed the Veggies up a bit for this new series, but I think the new look is so exciting!
