Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to show someone special how much they mean to you.

Many people think that the only way to do this is to spend big bucks, but the truth is the simplest and well thought out gifts are often the best ones to receive.

If you want to gift your sweetheart something meaningful but budget friendly this holiday season, take a look at these 7 frugal Valentine’s Day ideas that you can consider.

Bake a Valentine Cake to show your love
1. Bake a cake.
You can find not only baking mixes, but frosting, sprinkles, and even pans at your local dollar store. For about $5 or possibly less, you can bake a beautiful cake that is sure to be enjoyed. If you wish, you can snag some cupcake cups and try a batch of cupcakes instead.

2. Plant some seeds.
Instead of fresh flowers, gift your Valentine a pot with seeds planted in it. Include instructions for care. In a few weeks, they should start to see some sprouts and enjoy watching the seeds bloom into colorful flowers. You can even include a picture of what the finished product will look like, if you wish.

3. Give a manicure in a jar.
Buy a canning jar from your local dollar store as well as a file, some polish, travel lotion, and other manicure essentials. Tuck them into the jar and finish with some ribbon. If you wish, include other health and beauty items that will fit. This is a creative gift that the recipient is sure to love.

What I love about you jar of compliments
4. Make a compliment jar.
Buy a canning jar at the local dollar store and fill it with compliments. You can cut scraps of paper out of colorful scrapbook paper, and write the various compliments on the strips. Place them in a jar where they can be pulled out and enjoyed as needed.

5. Give a potted herb.
This is not only a great frugal Valentine gift idea, but a nice gesture that can be enjoyed all year long! Find a potted herb plant at your local grocery store or farmer’s market. Gift it along with some homemade recipe cards that include recipes that use the specific herb. Your Valentine will enjoy fresh herbs at his or her fingertips.

6. Craft some “sock candy.”
Use a shirt box, and line up cupcake wrappers inside of it. Buy colorful and Valentine socks for your sweetie, then roll up each sock and place them in the wrappers. Replace the lid. When your Valentine opens the box, it will look like a colorful candy assortment!

Homemade Valentine's Day Art
7. Give Art from the Heart
It’s amazing how simply you can make a cute and sweet piece of art, you might even have empty frames that you could repurpose for this project. And don’t forget that a gift of art doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful. Sometimes, the tiniest expressions of our feelings can mean the most and that’s truly the case when you create art from the hart.
