…with only TWO DAYS LEFT to make the FREE $39 value photo books from Picaboo …. I just wanted to remind you once again what a wonderful offer this is. Out of all offers that we saw and received last year…this was my favorite, so I was really excited to see it back again. Honestly… stay up late if you have to (I am actually going to help a girlfriend make one for her Grandparents 50th wedding anniversary tomorrow night …talk about last minute!… but how priceless will that be? We have scanned old love letters, photos and even movie tickets …. now we just need to put it all together.) Here are some other ideas that I have shared for making your book. And if you don’t have a lot of time, my favorite idea for what to create is a book with your kids photo on the front…and then let them color the pages with their own artwork!! Grandma would love it!

You could make a Cookbook (left) … or just literally upload a bunch of photos and “let them fall where they may” ….for a fun photo collage book (right) …. or you could even come up with a fun Baby book and leave pages blank for writing in memories and such. Reader Kelli shared with me how she made a book of things to be “thankful for” …. and reader Megan told me about the book that she made by uploading photos of all of her son’s preschool projects (so she didn’t have to store all of those egg carton creations, but still had wonderful memories of them … I LOVE this idea!) I had the idea to make a book for Grandma of a couple photos of the kids in their art smocks … and then just leave the rest of the pages pretty much blank, and let the kids color in drawings (maybe one a week or so) until Christmas… what a fun gift that would be!!!

How it works…….Simply design your book using Picaboo’s free software, and use this coupon code FREEBK when you order your Large Classic, Classic Leather, or Classic Custom book by August 31. The total cost of your book (up to 20 pages) will be deducted from your order total. (up to a $39 value!) Shipping is only $8.99. Want to find out how to pay for your shipping (plus additional pages if you have them) … they will print your book within 3-4 business days and then ship it to you. Just go HERE to get started…

*This offer is for first time Picaboo customers only.

This is a wonderful opportunity to make a Wedding Photo Book, BirthStory Book, etc…. Get a free Classic photo book at Picaboo! Use code FREEBK through August 31, 2010. What I love about this offer … is that you have lots of time to create your free book…so you can make it fabulous! What a wonderful Christmas gift this would make for just about anyone! Retail on these books is up to $39!!

With the end of summer just around the corner, and Labor Day weekend coming up … I thought this would be a great post for some ideas on how to have fun if you are not getting out of town for the three day weekend…

The following guest post was written by my friend Tracie at PennyPinchinMom….

Summertime means sun, fun and family vacations. However, if your budget won’t allow for you to get out of town this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t still have lots of fun together. Here are a few staycation ideas:

1. Set up your own water park. Use your own pool, slip ‘n slide and sprinklers. Arrange them in an obstacle course for the kids to run and play and stay cool. Be sure to make some popsicles because it isn’t a water park without frozen treats!

2. Plan a neighborhood BBQ. Assign a food item to all of the neighbors, bring your chairs, coolers and have a great time. By each household providing one item, your cash outflow is minimal and you get to have a fun party (and maybe get to even KNOW your neighbors a little better).

3. Visit your local museums. Many times, there is little to no admission to these venues. They are a great way to add a little culture to your life — plus they are air conditioned and can keep you cool!

4. Bring the ballpark home. Let’s face it, baseball tickets can be out of your budget’s reach, so why not bring them home? Dawn your favorite team’s apparel, cook up all of the baseball park fixins’ such as hot dogs, nachos and soft drinks and turn on the tube. Root for the home team from home (and think about how great it will be to not fight traffic when the game is over).

5. Story time at the library. This is a great way to stimulate your child’s love of reading. Check out your local library for summer reading events.

6. Camp out in your own backyard. We have done this a couple of times and it is so much fun! We pick up the makings for s’mores, tell stores and try to catch a few fireflies before we climb into our tent for the night. Our city is actually sponsoring a family campout in the park, so check with your local Parks & Recreation department for similar events.

7. Nature Hike. My daughter would go on nature hikes with her dad every day if we would let her. She loves to go and helps her dad by pickup up trash, looking for wildlife and learning about the plants and trees that are growing in our own neighborhood.

8. Picnic in the Park. My kids would live in the park if I let them. So, we pack a picnic lunch and load up to head out and enjoy the equipment followed by lunch before we head home for naptime.

Of course, there are always rainy days in the summer, so it helps to have some back up plans in place. Here are a few ideas:

1. Cool Whip Painting. This has to be one of my children’s FAVORITE activities. We take cool whip and split it into 4 bowls and I tint them with food coloring (stick to the drops rather than the gels). I get out paintbrushes (bought specifically for this project) and I let them “paint” on paper plates. I’d recommend putting on old shirts (or going shirtless) and then plan on an immediate dip in the bathtub for cleanup.

2. Indoor obstacle course. Use the table leaf against the couch to make a slide. Set up the dining room chairs for the kids to crawl in between. We tie a jump rope between 2 doors and do the limbo followed by walking with a stuffed animal on our heads.

3. Go on a treasure hunt. I try to keep special treats such as M&Ms or Smarties on hand. Then, we set up a treasure hunt to provide clues to help one another track down the secret treasure. Since my kids are younger, we draw pictures, but you can make up riddles for your older kids to solve to figure out where to head for the next clue.

4 Bake some cookies. Kids LOVE to bake. I have my children help me with measuring and pouring since so that they are learning while they are having fun. There’s nothing better than warm chocolate chip cookies when it is cold outside.

No matter what you plan on doing this summer, the most important thing is to just have fun and do it as a family. Your children will love spending quality time with you – no matter WHAT you decide to do.

Tracie has helped her family eradicate over $37,000 in debt in 27 short months. She shares her money saving tips and deals daily at Penny Pinchin’ Mom. Tracie makes her home, with her husband and 3 young children, in Missouri.

Thanks, as always, for the great share, PennyPinchinMom!

FREE Photo Canvas…Just Pay Shipping…

by Keri Lyn on August 28, 2010

in free stuff

…I like to mention this offer from time to time because I always get such great feedback from those of you that have done it. Right now, you can get a  FREE Canvas from Canvas People! You will have to pay shipping ($14.95) …but it is totally worth it, in my opinion. My girlfriend made one for her baby room…. and she actually did the larger size (you will have the option of getting a FREE 8×10 OR $55 off of a larger canvas) and the one that she created is so neat….it looks like a piece of art. I used one my son’s drawings to make room decor … it turned out darling!

If you have a great photo that you are wanting to do something with, this would make such a wonderful gift…. check it out here:
